Midlands League

Apart from Newburgh who might end up in the EoS Third Division next season. I don't think any of the Perthshire/North Fife teams will be all that scared of the Borders Boogeyman.

Then if travel fears are meant to be this great concern the prospect of a North/Midlands Tier 6 merger or Highland League football is just out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I believe the North Region clubs aren't keen on the idea of a joint superleague...

Aberdeen to Dundee always seemed like a bit of a trek to me when I travelled it quite a bit by Stagecoach bus back when dinosaurs roamed the earth so don't find that particularly surprising given the mentality a lot of Aberdonian seem to have that anything south of Stonehaven is terra incognita in a here be jakey wasters sort of way compared to anything NE over towards Elgin. Always got a very good view into Broughty Athletic's ground travelling by Stagecoach though. How it is now is a huge transformation.

Suspect the joint superleague concept may have mainly been how the SJFA would have got around any objection to a third north feeder rather than something that was ever hugely likely to happen in the absence of that for the reason you outline. Think it's more the Perth area clubs rather than Fife ones that might move over eventually if they ever start to struggle in the EoS down the road but looks like there are no easy answers for the Midlands League because all the most likely ones other than Newburgh maybe are doing well where they are at the moment.

St Andrews unless they have massive East Pyramid aims must surely be tempted by 15 mile trips over the Tay and derby with Tayport rather than 120 mile trips to the Borders?

They are in the running for promotion to the EOS Premier, which is obviously a higher standard than the Midlands. They have one trip to the Borders this season and that will be gone whether they get promoted or not.

From our time in the North that would be correct. Very little appetire for travel to Dundee which is what I would have wanted for the original Superleages in 2002/3 and can still see how it work but can also see why the in rapidly changing face of the Pyramid it could be here today and gone tomorrow? As far as other teams joining the Midlands 3/4 of the North Fife teams must  be interested? St Andrews unless they have massive East Pyramid aims must surely be tempted by 15 mile trips over the Tay and derby with Tayport rather than 120 mile trips to the Borders? a couple of Amateur step ups would see 24/26 teams and two Midland Leagues until a few move to the Highland League!

if its not an easy commute from aberdeen theyre not happy

4 points dropped by Lochee United in the last 2 games, are there some injuries ?

A bit of a late response, yes, we had some injuries. But in all honesty, we should still have done better. Credit to Roselea & Violet for how they defended too, but with the players we had, if we play to our standards we should be able to beat both.

Hopefully the comeback & penalty win at Largs will get some confidence back. Still a long way to go, 9 points behind but also 2 games in hand and still playing Broughty twice so anything can happen. This Saturday is going to be interesting with us at home to FWE & Broughty away at Carnoustie.

meant to post a well done to Letham in getting their game on last Saturday.

A strange game, Letham scored injury time goals in each half and looked comfortable at times but as soon as FWE scored 1 i knew they would get another.

5-2 flattered Letham a bit in the end.

Maybe the League should go public and try to make two divisions happen by just advertising for new clubs? Saying something along the lines of:

[a] The League wishes to create two Divisions on a permanent basis with effect from the 2025/26 season. To achieve this additional clubs are required so clubs are invited to apply for a place in the League in readiness for the 2025/26 season, or earlier if they already meet the League's criteria.

and New clubs must have facilities which meet the current minimum standard required by the League for existing clubs. However, consideration will be given to applications from clubs which currently do not have this in place provided they have plans to achieve this in time for the start of the 2025/26 season. Applications must be received in time for due consideration at the League's AGM in the summer of 2024.

Not saying that it would work but it might encourage some clubs to give it a go as they would have time to get facilities etc in place. At least, if there was no viable interest the League would know that for sure.

Seems as good a place as any to ask, is there a wee bar or anything at Dundee Violet to grab a pint on matchdays? I’ll be staying 2 minutes away over the weekend so may well take a walk round on Saturday but can’t find anything online about whether it’s worth heading round early for a drink or 2?
