Some man, Marshall.

Now with Craig Gordon closer to a free bus pass than being able to buy a bottle of MD, we really are in bother in the goalkeeping department. Some laugh.

Sad to see him go, but it is a bit strange to retire during an international break is it not?

Wouldn’t be surprised if he makes himself available in case of an emergency since he’s a top guy

You would hope so given the back up options are pretty horrendous and if he’s in form.

There was a season where both McCrorie and Doohan looked like promising goalkeepers in the Championship.

Both then had pretty uninspiring spells on loan in the Premier though, have no idea if there's any goalkeepers coming through capable of holding a candle to Marshall, let alone Gordon

It’s not easy to see where the next keeper comes from once Gordon retires.

Kelly has the gloves by default at the moment. Clark isn’t good enough and will almost certainly never be good enough.

Some of it will depend on how Rangers goalkeeping situation shakes out in the next week or so. There’s a chance McLaughlin is Rangers number one for a season, and there’s a chance McCrorie gets shipped somewhere and gets another chance to prove himself. But even if McLaughlin does bridge the gap between Gordon and the next keeper, it would need to be a pretty short gap cos he’s a fair age.

No idea what other young prospects are looking like with other clubs. Rangers have some hope for Jay Hogarth but guessing development at his age is almost impossible.

It increasingly looks like we will have a period without a good club keeper rather than a top keeper, possibly for as long as four or five years, before another comes through to replace him. The main youth candidates are Cieran Slicker (who could jump to the head of the queue if he gets a good loan and performs well there), Harry Stone (who has already had an underwhelming loan for Partick Thistle) or maybe Harrison Sharp who has played a few times for Dundee.

Jay Hogarth is only 18 so unlikely to be coming through anytime soon - he is behind Budinauckas in the Rangers youth setup I think.

Hopefully we can sweet talk Angus Gunn or Ciaran Slicker into defecting over to Scotland. Man I wish one of Marshall/Gordon/McGregor was fifteen years younger

I'm not aware of Slicker playing for anyone but Scotland. The issue with Slicker is he is a 19YO keeper with no professional appearances. Until such time as he breaks into the City team (very, very unlikely) or goes on a successful loan, he isn't going to be troubling Scotland squads. He is only 19 so his first loan might yet be a couple of years away.

Ciaran Slicker plays for the u21s. Did you mean someone else?

Unfortunately, he doesn’t look like making it at City (who does?)

Are there any young lads in the Championship or League One? I’m always conscious that keepers mature late, and academy keepers rarely make the first team as there’s not often space.

Assume Gordon will be around for the next campaign till Euro 2024, although he will be 41 and a half by the time the tournament kicks off. Can only hope we have another keeper playing regular first team football at a decent level before then, or we will probably be starting the World Cup 2026 campaign with Zander Clarke or Liam Kelly as number one.
