If Rodgers wants to visit him, fine, do it with humility and sincerity. This nonsense just perpetuates the divisive crap that gets allowed to define our game. It’s not a rarity to see sports teams visit the Vatican and the Pope. The German national team have done it, as have Bayern Munich amongst others from other sporting fields.

It’s why neither club should ever be let away with saying ‘we do everything within our power to eradicate sectarianism’. We all know what this was about. It’s harmless enough for them and their fans to give it the ‘who me?’ Retort. But we all know.

No, that's not quite correct. Given a musical opportunity, some of the less civilised supporters proudly shout about having sex with the gentleman concerned.

Pandering to their thick bigoted fan base who see Celtic as some sort of 'Irish Catholic cause' that just happen to kick a football about as a wee sideline. Or, maybe not ! Maybe Celtic, as a club open to all creeds and none, will, following future European humiliations seek solace and comfort from The Chief Rabbi, The Moderator of The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, The CEO of the Secular Society, The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Dalai Lama and David Icke. Except that there are hundreds of sports teams/people who visit the Pope when in Rome, it’s not an uncommon thing however the only place with an issue with it is here, Celtic aren’t exactly setting precedent here Edited November 30, 2023 by Jinky67
Doctor Manhattan
Top Tip for teams struggling in Europe who need all the divine intervention they can get: Maybe next time rock up to the Vatican BEFORE the game rather than after.

Love the idea that the alleged creator of the cosmos takes sides in football matches. See, that's why Raith Rovers have never won the Champions League... not enough prayer, or too much swearing in Kirkcaldy or maybe eating shellfish. It all seems so clear now!

It's obvious what they're doing, it's repugnant and it has absolutely nothing in common with any individual's genuine affiliation or affection with either the papacy or the monarchy. And it is certainly an utterly irrelevant piece of Old Firm whataboutery to say 'but loads of other sportsman visit the pope' .
