Okay. I’m not really following your thread , I’m sure it’s there but your reply is a bit vague. That being said, I’m just finishing work, low on caffeine, mentally tapped out.

Maybe it’ll come to me in the night. Cheers

Explaining technicalities to a luddite allways has it's problems M8.

It’s a great question which I’d love the answer to myself however can only give you my own thoughts.

Firstly we seem to think we can play these teams the same way we play Ross County, aye we can pass the ball about but what we can’t do is concede 10 chances to lose 1 and make 10 to score 1. It’s just not viable we have to be much more direct and much more clinical, it’s why MON’s sides were successful. We were direct, physical and clinical.

Secondly part of it is to do with our transfer model which is great if all you care about is winning the league and staying wealthier than anyone else in Scotland. We sign these prospects that we hope to develop to a Champions League level and sell them before they do for a profit. We rarely sign anyone already at it, an example of which was Fabian Rieder a really good player who already played Champions League and done well with YB but we wouldn’t pay the money and he went to Rennes for 15 million.

Btw MoN wasnt successful in the CL, the fact that both Strachan and Lennon made it further than he ever did and probably spending less too shows that

MoN couldn't buy a result away from home in the CL because he couldnt deviate from how he played at home, Walter was honking in europe first time around cause he treated it like scotland

They keep that money in the bank? They don't spend it on the first team? So if we compared the wage bill of St. Mirren and Celtic they'd be roughly the same?

Celtic live within our means the same as St Mirren do,it's a major concern why the dosh sits in the bank M8.

I wish people would stop comparing us to Celtic as St Mirren arguably have a far better record in Spain despite being very poor financially in comparison to Celtic. We even have a trophy to prove it.

I don’t remember any talk of financial gulf when Dundee United beat Barcelona home and away in 1986/87 UEFA cup.

There certainly were financial issues when United were robbed of getting to the 1984 European Cup final in Rome.

Basically Jim McClean is better in Europe than all Celtic managers bar Jock Stein despite the hundreds of millions Celtic have made and spent down the years.

If there ever was a 'Celtic Way" it ended in the late 90s/early2000s when the PLC/corporation (formerly known as The Celtic Football and Athletic Company) rejected Fergus McCann's sensible fiscal approach and adopted the suicidal Rangers/Souness/Murray/Thatcher/Neoliberal mindset of inflating wages and transfer fees for sporting mercenaries, to allow them to occasionally sit at the same table as the real big teams (dining on crumbs mainly, but occasionally allowed to taste a mouthful of hors d'ouevres), craving compliments about their stadium and atmosphere and blah blah blah.

Celtic have become Rangers. Everything that was hated about the loadsamoney, all-conquering, entitled and arrogant Rangers is now the Celtic Way.

You have become your enemy.

I have believed this for a long time now. Celtic have morphed into Rangers of the 90's. Their fans who used to be a lot more palatable have now become the 'nobody likes us' brigade and the WATP nonsense applies a lot more to them.

They are also the most Tory club around yet kid on they are socialists, they absolutely would not follow this club if they genuinely believed in that.

I live in the here and now M8,the past is bagged'n'tagged done'n'dusted, the European cup has been going for 68 years in that time Spain teams have won it 19 times,English teams 15 times,Italian teams 12 times and German teams 8 times, which equals 54 times out of 68.
It duzn't matter how much dosh is in the game or how much the game has changed through the years the same countries will dominate European football.

Of course 'your' club is. Glasgow Celtic openly support, encourage and benefit from the obscene financial disparity that blights Scottish football. Regardless of the label 'Tories', there is no disputing that Glasgow Celtic are capitalist vultures who prey on the weaker clubs around them(the fact that they get the same done to them in Europe is karma at its finest). Clearly you know as little about political and economic systems as you do about football.

For me, Jim McLean is the greatest (British?) manager of all time. Closely followed by Clough, but Clough was managing a bigger team in a bigger city in a bigger country and a richer league. He was able to break the transfer record on a striker to help him win European trophies.

If we are rating managers based on their resources and what they attained with them then its McLean No.1 for me.

All football clubs competing in the Champion's League are Thatcherite/Neoliberal.

Every single aspect of our lives has been captured by this mentality, there is no alternative ©️™️.

There is no avoiding this reality so you can try to engage with the world constantly striving to remain aware of the cognitive dissonance that is required to navigate it, and making efforts, where possible, to stay awake, reject media-created bullshit when you can (like Celtic PLC) and realise when you are being lied to (*hint* it's always) and, more importantly, when you are lying to yourself.

Or, you can try to deny the utter psychological horror that is living in the 21st century and take shelter in the lie that those 11 men running around in green and white hoops with the little clover on it are representative of the same meaning/values of 100 or even 50 years ago.

FC United of Manchester are a perfect example of how ideals become jettisoned when factions of people start craving status i.e "we reject all commercialization of our community project" becomes "lets show ambition and move on up through the leagues" (last I checked there was a battle taking place within their club, not sure where that currently stands but I have my predictions on how it will eventually end up).

Assigning current political labels like "Torie" or "Left-leaning" is meaningless. We're all Thatcherites now, and have been for 40 years. You/your club chose to adopt your enemies tactics, the results were inevitable.

So, of the 14 times that clubs outside of those leagues have won it, how many have come in the last 20 years say, since the finances exploded?

Yeah. And those leagues you mentioned are the richest in Europe. So it clearly does matter how much dosh you have. Have you wondered why the team you support dominates the domestic game?
