It is. It's sectarian shit that the club should be well above, but never is.

If Rodgers wants to visit him, fine, do it with humility and sincerity.  This nonsense just perpetuates the divisive crap that gets allowed to define our game.

It’s not a rarity to see sports teams visit the Vatican and the Pope. The German national team have done it, as have Bayern Munich amongst others from other sporting fields.

Interesting seeing this article on the same page - Pope Francis cancels COP28 visit over illness - BBC News

That is from yesterday and he was due to fly to Dubai on Friday.  Looks as if the Pope cancelled his trip to COP28 so that he could meet Brendan and Liam Scales.  Pope Francis really has some explaining to do to the world leaders........he has been caught oot skiving bonnie

Yep. It’s why neither club should ever be let away with saying ‘we do everything within our power to eradicate sectarianism’.

We all know what this was about. It’s harmless enough for them and their fans to give it the ‘who me?’ Retort. But we all know.

So what was it about?

Pandering

Indeed , pandering.... Pandering to their thick bigoted fan base who see Celtic as some sort of 'Irish Catholic cause' that just happen to kick a football about as a wee sideline. Or, maybe not ! Maybe Celtic, as a club open to all creeds and none, will, following future European humiliations seek solace and comfort from The Chief Rabbi, The Moderator of The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, The CEO of the Secular Society, The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Dalai Lama and David Icke.

There would be much sucking of teeth, shaking of heads and tut tutting if Clement fetched up at the HQ of the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland and presented the Grand Master with an autographed Rangers jersey, with his name printed on the back.

Although he's probably got one already.

Except that there are hundreds of sports teams/people who visit the Pope when in Rome, it’s not an uncommon thing however the only place with an issue with it is here, Celtic aren’t exactly setting precedent here

Top Tip for teams struggling in Europe who need all the divine intervention they can get:

Maybe next time rock up to the Vatican BEFORE the game rather than after.

Love the idea that the alleged creator of the cosmos takes sides in football matches. See, that's why Raith Rovers have never won the Champions League... not enough prayer, or too much swearing in Kirkcaldy or maybe eating shellfish. It all seems so clear now!

Plenty of sports teams have visited the pope. I'm not sure the answer to sectarianism and anti-catholic sentiment from some Rangers fans or in wider Scottish society is for Celtic not to visit the pope.

There is probably an issue with it here because in 2023 people are sick to the back teeth of two tediously vile football clubs, whose whole pointless existence appears to be predicated purely on fanning the dying embers of late 19th/early 20th century religious bigotry for financial gain, continuously playing to the basest secterian elements of their fan base. It's obvious what they're doing, it's repugnant and it has absolutely nothing in common with any individual's genuine affiliation or affection with either the papacy or the monarchy. And it is certainly an utterly irrelevant piece of Old Firm whataboutery to say 'but loads of other sportsman visit the pope' .

Just as well I didn’t say that it was.

I dunno so much. According to some we have no teeth.

He’ll have the orange away top. Cert.
