Why would you make a peppercorn sauce to go with steak pie? it's already got it's own sauce

I meant to just type steak but confused myself. 

That said, last time I had a steak pie I had it with Chinese salt and pepper chips and onion gravy. Delicious.

I had a steak pie last night that came with a separate jug of gravy. Used it to dip the chips and veggies. Delightful.
