DeeTillEhDeh
I think that some people are getting confused between the phrases 'over hyped' and 'over rated'. There's a subtle difference between the two. In Scottish football, 'over hyped' tends to apply to youngsters who have/had potential but who's career never really meets/met the expectations that many had. The most hyped youngsters in Scottish football at this moment are probably Nathan Patterson and Calvin Ramsey. It's too early to say if they're 'over hyped', but they definitely have potential. For me, a classic example of 'over hyping' a player is Tony Watt. Came on for Celtic, scored the winner against Barcelona, and everyone predicted a glittering career full of international caps and goals. But it wasn't to be....not Watt's fault, it's just that he wasn't all that good and the Barcelona goal was a diamond amongst a bucket of turds. There must be other plenty of similar examples. It often happens with young centre halves, because we're all desperate for our club to develop the next Beckenbauer.....I suppose a current example of an over hyped player (although only amongst fans of his club) would be Ryan Porteous. Scott McKenna could come into that category. I'm trying to think of others. Craig Wighton is a classic example.
RandomGuy.
David Beckham regularly played for top Man U, Real Madrid and AC Milan sides. Plus PSG when he was done. I think the guys a complete fanny but he was clearly quality.
Austin McCann
Any Hibs youth player who manages to get through a game without tripping over his own feet.

I just remember around the time he moved to Madrid there was talk that he was among the best players in the world. For me that was never true, he was never a top 5 in the world but he was clearly an elite player and would walk into just about any club on the planet.

Hoose Rice
Darren Fletcher was always fucking crap for Scotland. Was a w**k as a laddie at Celtic too. Zander Clark is fucking class. Over rated is Josh Doig. He’s fucking shite for us half the time. Callum Mcrgegor is over rated too apart from the Croatia goal.

Gibby82
Not sure if he was ever hyped as such but Ian Ferguson picked up f**k only knows how many trophies at Rangers and a few Scotland caps and was bang average at best. Also appeared to be a despicable human being too.

No. There’s a little known rule in Madrid that you can only have one Scottish player at a top flight club in the city and Steven Fletchers move to Real Madrid ruined Zander’s chance.
Central Belt Caley
Jason Cummings, baffles me how he got 2 Scotland caps Calum Macgregor John Mcginn (when at Hibs) happy to admit he’s proven me wrong and probably one of our best players Ryan Porteous Emilio Izaguirre

ATLIS
Is it time for the Scott Brown conversation? Could he have even managed it down south or has he kept it safe and sound staying up here. His big appeal seems to be that he's a hatchet man that plays up to the fans. No doubt Celtic fans in years to come will highlight his trophies won and say he's the best Scotland's ever seen. Something a hell of a lot of players up here could learn from, never ceases to amaze me how many players are shite at set pieces, surely ones with even a limited talent could improve with a few extra hours on their own time practicing them. It would pay off long term.

Again, there's a difference between a player being 'hyped' and if you consider him overrated. I can't remember a young Scott Brown at Hibs ever really being hyped up. Tbh, I would say that Scott Brown is a classic example of a guy who has made the very best out of his football career. Never sensationally gifted, he has had a terrific domestic and international career. In fact, if any player in Scotland has lived up to the 'hype', it would be Scott Brown. Kenny Miller would be another who came into that category. A 100% player who made the very, very best of limited talents.
