ICTChris
Community Safety minister Ash Regan has resigned her position over the Gender Recognition Bill. Is this the first resignation over policy from the Scottish Government under the SNP? Looking back at it - Stewart Stevenson resigned as Transport minister over the response to severe snow in 2010. Mark MacDonald resigned after being accused of misconduct, as did Derek MacKay but I can't think of anyone resigning over a matter of government policy before. Somewhat fortunate that Kate Forbes is on maternity leave as she’s known to be very much against the bill. Looks like the government are to demand resignations of anyone who votes against the party, so she’s getting to save her skin on that basis. John Finnie, Jean Urquhart & John Wilson left the party over the change in NATO policy. Finnie & Urquhart left in 2012 with Wilson leaving in 2014. This should be a matter which is left to individual conscience. Just daft that it’s a whipping matter. Wonder how the fellow ? Just seems strange that we've had nearly 15 years of SNP government, minority, majority and coalition and not one minister has ever resigned over anything other than poor performance (Stevenson) or noncing (MacDonald and MacKay). Having looked through it, there haven't been that many policy resignations in the Scottish Parliament era. Tavish Scott - resigned over fisheries policy Malcolm Chisholm - Resigned after voting with the SNP on the replacement of Trident. That's really about it. Theroadlesstravelled
I can see the headline - SNP in complete disarray over MSP resigning. Nippy must stand down.
DeeTillEhDeh
It's genuinely frustrating listening to and reading the amount of completely inaccurate pish about this bill.

ICTChris
Seven SNP MSPs vote against the bill, the biggest rebellion in 15 years against an SNP whip. The MSPs who voted against are Stephanie Callaghan Fergus Ewing Kenny Gibson Ruth Maguire John Mason Ash Regan Michelle Thomson Abstentions Annabelle Ewing Jim Fairlie If you had asked me in 2007 what would prompt the biggest backbench rebellion in a decade and a half in the Scottish Parliament I would not have said “changes to gender recognition certificates”. Transphobes are given every right of reply. If you check the Daily Mail - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/transgender-issues/index.html - there's been 8 'trans' stories over the last 2 days. For 0.5% of the population. One of those articles is on Helen Joyce, who's also spoken at For Women Scotland rallies. Helen Joyce has also made videos where she says " every one of those people is basically, you know, a huge problem to a sane world” (from https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2022/06/03/helen-joyce-transgender-lgbtq/) "and that means reducing or keeping down the number of people who transition" Transphobia very much has the bulk of the debate just now. Have Aiden Comerford or Katy Montgomerie ever been on the BBC? But please, do bore all the way off.
