But causing the deaths of civilians for political goals is wicked, IMHO. Ok, and it’s the Ukrainian leadership who would be primarily responsible for that, and not, for example, the leadership of the country who’ve just invaded them?

I feel like he won’t let Putin take him alive. It's quite mad how he became President. He was a comedian starring in a TV show about being a History teacher that has a video go viral after a pupil films him going on a sweary rant about government corruption on the Internet which leads to him becoming President. He then signed up for the upcoming Ukraine election in response to the TV show as a bit of a laugh in 2019 and then ended up getting 70% of the vote. Mental. Imagine if that happened to us and Ricky Gervais or Jimmy Carr was elected as Prime Minister.

Thankfully out Prime Ministers have to go through political parties voting for them and then their constituents, so we generally avoid random punters getting the top job. It has seemed to serve us well...

There are a few more here: https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/ukraine/kyiv-city-council/kyiv/obolon.html I was watching one earlier from the roof of a hotel, you could hear an English media crew in the background chatting about an upcoming broadcast, the mouthpiece being asked by the producer (I think) if he was going to say he'd been in Kiev. Yes, he said, anyway it might be true, you never know it could have been the edge of the suburbs..

welshbairn
2 minutes ago, AlbionSaint said: So if Zelensky armed school kids and sent them to the front line, it would be Putin's fault? Zelensky has an obligation to protect his vulnerable citizens. He should be telling them to take shelter and stay off the streets - that's what I would do if I was him. As a leader you can ask the people to come out onto the streets and fight, but that instruction comes with consequences, and it means more civilian deaths. Zelensky could have taken actions to prevent this war. Rightly or wrongly, he chose the course of action he did - but he should be trying his best to limit civilian casualties. I don't see this as a contentious point. ^^^Pétainist
