He wasn't just discussing 'normality' - he was discussing regime change of the world's second nuclear power. For America to end up with another senile clown in charge after Reagan is not a good look for representative democracy. As said...., "....Whatever the outcome of the assault on Ukraine, there is zero likelihood of anything approximating to functional normality in relations with Russia while Putin is in charge ".

It's just that Ukraine is the rather unfortunate front for the West? If it wasn't for Ukraine adopting Western ideologies as they did, suffice to say Russia wouldn't be invading. But yes, his smiles and general persona suggest he's no idea what's in store for him.

ICTChris
Zelensky did an interview with some Russian journalists, it’s on Telegram, some parts of it noted here.

His comment may have ruffled a few feathers. Its accuracy, though, is pretty much beyond question. There may well be some face saving compromise that enables a halt to this war. Putin is history already. My view is this. And yes, I actually agree with you very much that even minor examination of the behaviour of the US over Iraq, Afghanistan.... and the UK's involvement in both, and also the UK colonial history leaves little room for moral high grounds. However, this is now. Millions died in Europe at the hands of Soviet Russia. Life for states under Soviet rule..., Poland, East Germany just to start..., was of repression, secret police everywhere. The Berlin Wall was built precisely because East Germans were voting with their feet and moving to West Germany. The East was depopulating. So they built the Berlin Wall, and shot those trying to escape. Basically, given the choice, no one wants to live under Russian rule. And that's what this is about.

Poor equivalence. The government of the time forbade British citizens from fighting in Spain. Will there be the same treatment as was handed to the Isis fighters who left from Britain and were refused help and made stateless for fighting for a foreign army/state? Think that's a fair question. -
