Rovers v Morton

Recommended Posts

13 points after 18 games to 40 points after 33. What a fucking manager.

The manager we had for the first half of the season was even better than Dougie Imrie.

Unfortunately the one we’ve had for the second half is worse than Gus MacPherson.

5th place🤔. That's the place to aim for.😂

We're more than likely to be more than accommodating to help you reach your goal. Especially the way the last three and a bit months have panned out.🤗

This already feels like one of those days.

We'll lose this 1-0 and probably pick up another daft red card along the way.

Uncannily close but just misses winning the coconut.🥺

Benedictus

How RR failed to score in this game will require the chasers to resolve.

Great header by Benedictus which normally results in us giving up 2pts, luckily for us he fails to understand it's got to go between the posts.

Not bad for a fiver, decent first half performance.  Second half had three chances. Robbies wonder goal. Strapp's one man surge forward getting assaulted and subsequently needing subbed. Gozie's late cross which McGrattan needs to take chance on.

All in all a good day out.

Big Gozie looks about 2 stone lighter than this time last year. Great touch throughout and him and Muirhead more than occupied our three centre halves. We really struggled with Morton’s general physicality all game. The only player who had any sort of success against their back line was Ethon Varian and we somewhat unbelievably subbed him off, only to throw Kyle Benedictus up front with ten minutes to go.

Thought he merited being subbed.Apart from the odd occasion where he had success against their back line he was fairly anonymous

Cant criticise his work rate but that should be a given for any player, beyond that not sure what he brings to the table.

BTW not wanting to single him out as there are a few players in our squad who who dont bring much to the table

Subbing the only player who won a header against Lithgow all game just as we were about to start launching it in the box in hope of an equaliser was the wrong choice for me. The lack of goals, or even chances we’ve created off the back of Varian’s strength in the air has been criminal this year. Him in an Ian McCall team would be unplayable.

Need to agree to disagree on that. He,d certainly not be on my list of trying to sign for next season

Thought Lithgow and Mortons defence had a fairly comfortable day and coped with what we had to offer without much difficulty

The game I thought was decent but that might be down to the pish thats been on display for the last few weeks or even months

Dont think either team deserved to win but Mortons goal was a  peach of a finish

Enjoyed that, even though the football on show was mediocre and we wasted pretty much every set piece we had.
As results elsewhere started to go our way I had a feeling we’d nick it and Robbie duly obliged with a peach.

Gotta love Dougie Imrie for what he’s done.

Momentum is everything in football and nothing really sums that up more than today. We actually played reasonably well, created a few great chances and saw them come off the bar twice and Poplatnik/Benedictus missed sitters.

Morton weren’t exactly nowhere in the game, but they score a screamer from nowhere and take the three points. Their fans having a great time, ours silent - Morton on the up, we’re surely relegation favourites for next season.

We’ve probably deserved to win four of our last six home games (QoS, Hamilton, Partick, Ayr, ICT, Morton). We’ve won none and lost three. It isn’t a coincidence, or a hard luck story.

I know we've beaten QoS twice recently, but in general terms we don't seem to know how to win a match. As you say, we should have picked up a hell of a lot more from that run of matches.

That's no wins at home since December, absolutely shocking.

Just watched the highlights. Good grief some of those chances we missed… Poplatnik in the first half when he’s 6 yards out, Poplatnik again in the second half when he inexplicably takes a touch and then hits the side netting, Benedictus’ header at the back post, Zanatta off the bar, Varian off the bar then kicked off the line. Really no surprise we are on the run we are when we have that many clear cut chances and score 0.

I mean, he wasn’t wrong.. was he? The boy at left back has a great long throw and Morton use it well.

McGlynn said after the draw in the previous meeting at Cappielow that long throws should be banned. It was a dig at the way we play, Imrie had a good laugh about it on Open Goal.

I see. Didn’t know that. Hopeful that we sign that left back, tbh. Would love us to have that sort of weapon in our squad.
