Joe Terrapin
From the depths of despair this has turned out to be not a bad night for Scotland. And the bonus being England pumped.

accies1874
Armenia are a really horrible bunch who I don't want to play again anytime soon. The first half will stick in the mind much more than the second. I suppose we do need to account for fatigue and missing a few key players, but all three who started at the back are regulars, Gilmour dropped a disasterclass and McGregor carried over his form from the Ireland game while 11 v 11 (was good 11 v 10). Taylor had some decent moments but he's not a wing-back.
craigkillie
Also if Ireland win tonight it means we could actually slip up and draw with them at hampden as long as we take 4 points from Ukraine. Ireland could only get 10, Ukraine 10 and we would be on 11.Ireland win tonight preferable imoThis remains true even after the draw tonight. If we take 4 off Ukraine then a draw against Ireland is sufficient.

BucksburnDandy
Ultimately, it has been a disappointing camp this time round. However the win tonight is a good one and does show the progress that the team has made, taking advantage of a gang in such a dismissive and comprehensive manner in the second half.Major issues in terms of lack of tactical flexibility and our defence tonight being a clowncar outfit. However I'll park that on this thread to celebrate the good stuff from Armstrong, Patterson and McGinn who all looked very bright tonight. Patterson is a big upgrade on Ralston, McGinn looked better tonight than his last three games. Armstrong was outstanding, and has had one of the few creditable camps this June.Roll on September, hopefully with a fit KT.
GroundskeeperWillie
It was nice of us to try and make this a more interesting match by competing in a battle of which defence could be more tinpot. Given how ineffectual we were going forward against ROI, it's hard not to get the fear when they go 1-0 up so early, and even at 1-1 and 2-1 up we showed serious defensive deficiencies. Glad to have got the morale boost of a win and a few goals, but for September we really need to sort out the defence. Tierney returning should hopefully bring back some stability, but given how positionally poor Hanley and Hendry were tonight, you have to question their suitability for starting places in the next triple header (if McKenna is fit and Souttar doesn't pick up another injury I'd contend they are slightly ahead as it stands). Armstrong definitely MOM for me, he provided the link between midfield and attack that Christie failed at against ROI, plus two really well taken goals. Adams not far behind, thought he again did so much good running and attempting to make spaces, and his five-a-side attempt at beating the entire Armenia team was a fun moment. Also nice of Armenia to adopt the Airdrie of the 80s and early 90s approach. Some of the tackling and general shithousery was lamentable, glad to see the infamous water bottle thrower finally get his comeuppance. Not sure what was going on at the end, looked like someone was attempting to go for one of our players and was thankfully stopped, but as some have mentioned glad we don't have to play Armenia again for a while
charger29
There are 20 automatic places up for grabs.Finishing 3rd in a League B group would leave you ranked between 25th and 28th overall. Once you rule out Germany as hosts, that's really 24th to 27th for play-off consideration.Barring an unforeseen change to the format, there are 8 play-off spots across Leagues A and B, so to miss out on those even as the worst 3rd placed team, you'd need 2 of the sides above you to miss out on qualification. If you're the best 3rd placed side you'd need 5 of them to miss out.Yeah, fair enough. Took another look at it. There is a good change 3rd gets you a playoff place. Although its not impossible that all four B winners don't qualify automatically and you're left hoping to sneak into the A playoffs (with the possibility of the best D team nicking a spot ahead of you).

I don't think there's any chance that Group D will get a playoff this time around. It will be Group C and above. Given it's 20 countries plus Germany, there are only three playoff routes available this time, whilst there was four for 2020.
craigkillie
There's a place set aside for the best League D team as long as at least one of the group winners qualifies automatically.

So a Group D team moves up, rather than Group D having its own playoff? Makes sense. So does a D team push up to B or A? (I'm guessing Greece, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Georgia are unlikely to qualify automatically so Group C won't have space). Mind you, Finland ruined that theory last time, so not impossible. Imagine being a Group B side (such as ourselves), winning a group and being paired against Latvia?
