Which teams would seasoned LL watchers recommend to seek out from the perspective of which play decent football on the deck? Thanks folks. What @Spyro said. Also getting around the WOS Prem/First Division by train is a dawdle compared to the HL so you can enjoy a bevvy. On a par if not only slightly less standard than the top HL teams, but decent crowds and good support so a chance of anything kicking off if the football is pish at least! Pollok for a big home game is a must if you're going to be in Glasgow, but you're really spoiled for choice compared to up north. Ok time for a response from a follower of the Lowland League, after all we are on a LL thread. Firstly yes some good WOS teams and games. Not all the facilities are the best, in LL all teams must meet SFA Full Member licensing, standards, not so in Tier 6 and below. Not sure if " chance of kicking off " will entice would be spectators, although probably a bit tongue in cheek, element of truth unfortunately. Typical disrespectful comments from Spyro about LL eg deadwood/Colts/ Uni teams. Original query from Highland strong on quality of match on view,. Having seen loads of games involving Uni teams and a number with Colts, absolutely no problems with either ,quite the opposite in fact, all try play football the right way. Last comments, agree spoiled for choice for games in and around Glasgow at Tier 5 and below, suggest try for self and draw own conclusions, rather than rely on quite obviously biased opinions.
cowdenbeath
Depends what the guy wants out of seeing games. Bit of ground hopping seeing new places or just for seeing teams he hasn’t seen before. As mentioned Glasgow is good for getting around on the train and a lot of the Ayrshire clubs are easy to reach by train. There are plenty of good grounds and teams to watch in the lowland, west and east leagues. Edited August 19, 2022 by cowdenbeath

Tbf, the guy brought up the west himself. Where, like it or not, the LL is just not relevant to a lot of people. Otherwise it would be a different story from me as there’s a few well supported teams like Tranent and Bo’ness. There’s plenty quality including your own lot, Spartans, Strollers, and also Gala, Shire, Stirling etc on their day. Been a keen watcher of the LL since it was formed but less so since it lost WW and Bonnyrigg.

You know yourself if HighlandITFC had said Edinburgh, I would've suggested the Costa del Muirhouse to watch the mighty CCS, or for the more sophisticated taste... Tranent Berwick and Gala are decent too.

In response to cowdenbeath's queries / comments above, I do like to go to a few different grounds, & from that ideally looking to find a club that I can follow that have a good set-up & play decent football. Was thinking LL, but as WoS was suggested as a potential alternative, happy to check that out aswell. Not interested in any politics / aggro between leagues & their respective fans / proponents....just a fan of decent football & good clubs / football people.

If the financial doping ever stops EK Thistle could wind up being the EK club with better long term propects again because the Showpark is a much better location for a football stadium. EK blew it big time in the penalty shootout against Cowdenbeath and have a very narrow window of opportunity before the LL starts to be a lot more competitive than it is now. Hopefully the BUs burst their bubble today. Edited August 20, 2022 by LongTimeLurker
Jordi1977
If Glasgow based and you definitely want some LL action, then EK, Cumbernauld and OGB are logistically your best options. EK are a very strong side this season... I'll let you make your own judgement on the quality of the other two... I've seen Stirling Uni twice this season and been thoroughly impressed both times. Very quick side that like to keep the ball down. Bo'ness are also a very good side and pretty well supported too. Not the easiest to get to with public transport . Other than these, if sticking around Glasgow area, WoS is your best bet. Edited August 21, 2022 by Jordi1977
HibeeJibee
Bad day for several clubs against lower-level cup opposition. Berwick crashed 2-1 at Stoneyburn (4 levels below)... Gretna were thumped 4-0 at home to Cambuslang (1 level below)... Gala came back to draw 1-1 and forced extra time at Kinnoull (2 levels below) but were unable to obtain the lead and lost 5-4 on penalties... OG Broomhill lost 1-0 at Glenrothes (2 levels below). There were solid wins for Spartans at Newtongrange, Uni of Stirling at Crossgates, and 'Shire home to Kirkcaldy & Dysart (despite the break through taking until the last 20mins). Civil Service thumped Heriot-Watt Uni. Tranent travel into Bathgate tomorrow to face Armadale (4 levels below), looking to avoid adding their name to the quartet of bad losses in what is certainly a tricky-looking tie potentially.

Yes Showpark great location, tbf not a lot else to suggest better long term prospects. Actually totally deluded, no disrespect to the boys at Thistle.
Hauzen
If FC Edinburgh can somehow get away with that revamped Meadowbank monstrosity in League One, then surely EK Community Trust could invest a wee bit of money in tarting up the John Wright Sports Centre playing field instead of the pie in the sky community stadium in the arse end of nowhere that will most likely never happen. It would mean taking down some of the blue cycle pathway signs around Langlands that were produced with "community stadium" distance markers on them and are now covered over with tape

Great transport links, easy walking from the town centre, village and train station.

Vaguely remember that EK OK was what the EK Thistle fans were singing at Ibrox when their club beat the BUs at Ibrox in the early 80s. Your club still has some way to go before it achieves anything like that with that kind of backing from the wider community. EK Thistle have been struggling for a while but that wasn't always the case and who knows what the future holds. Twenty years ago anyone suggesting your club would be where it is today would have been told they were totally deluded.
