Dumfries wasnt his real surname though. He used it in motor racing for convenience.
JessieField
There's somebody called Dumfries in the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". He's the town undertaker I believe (his name is on his business window as the camera pans across a scene early in the movie). Only time I've seen that name surname mentioned.

die hard doonhamer
Joe Thomson has gone back to Celtic from Livi. I really feel he would be the ideal player to complete our squad.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a chairman that owned a building company so that all these maintenance issues could be addressed!!!!! And would you expect him to pay his workmen out of his own pocket or would you expect the client (QoS FC in this instance) to pay as would be the case if it was being done for any other client. He wouldn't be much of a businessman if he took his labour force off jobs that made his company money and which therefore allowed him to pay his men and keep them in employment. Isn't the club already paying an employee/employees to do these things, the groundstaff.

I fear it's just going to get alot worse and stop more people coming to Palmerston. Hopefully I'm wrong and there's something already decided to be done about it...

We aren't asking him to build a palace, if he could place some conveniently located bins, paint a few walls or clean up some seagull shit, then that would be sufficient.

steakpiegravy
Ayr were the classic team with a rundown stadium and a builder as a chairman. At least ours doesn't look in danger of falling down!

The chairman's company charged the same as the value of the funding we got. As they did for the Arena too. Neither cost the club a penny. The commercial value of the work done was miles more than the charge. If you are a shareholder all of that detail is in the accounts. Final score on December 5th 1964 Montrose 3 Queens 7. Hopefully a game as exciting as that one! A Dumfries mate of mine was reminding me about the 7-5 game at Brockville back in the days of black & white.. QoS 3-0 up inside first 20mins, then Falkirk scored 7. Then also apparently even earlier than that there was a 6-6 draw between us at Palmerston. If we're to seriously maintain this goal fest tradition when we meet up, can we share a bit more evenly next time? Don't burst some people's bubble SD, facts won't stop them having a pop at the Chairman/BOD at the slightest opportunity. As I said previously we have groundstaff already in place and routine maintenance and cleaning of the entire ground should surely come under their remit, not just work to the playing surface. Obviously in certain situations, for health and safety reasons, specialist work, etc, outside contractors need to be used.

MONKMAN
Be very surprised if the club couldn't get a hold of a pressure washer. Less grass to cut now so I'm sure the groundsman could, you know, find the time to carry out some cleaning around the ground.

Can the fans help raise the money?

I paint in my spare time and if one of them gets damaged I'm a bit gutted even though their just for personal use. Feel for the guy who took alot of time and hardwork doing them. I'm afraid I was never in favour of those paintings being put on that wall. Never the right place for them imho as it was a nap they'd get vandalised and I always actually rather liked the wall as it was. I'd hope it would be preserved in any future redevelopment. The paintings, if people were determined to have them, might have been better placed somewhere inside the ground. I said as much at the time and if my opinion goes against the flow so be it. Reckon they should come down now. Edited September 6, 2017 by louisxiv
