I think a couple is overstating it, Jason Naismith would have been the only one but we have no idea what other factors there were in that decision.  All of the rest were past their best, with some top earners within them too.

I don’t think we would’ve been wrong to keep McKay and Vigurs for another season

Whilst it seems the clubs new model seems to be "act now, think later", at least they've had the decency to give them memberships for life.

Are those like the season tickets for life that the club reneged on?

While Vigurs showed a lot more in the second half of the season I don't think either did enough to truly deserve a new contract. They've been with us since we came back up and rarely did we look a good side with them in it.

So we have no catering as we start the season and restrictions are being lifted?

I'd imagine they'll do what they did during the Leitch era (possibly a bit later) when they had a burger van at corners of the ground.

That being said, they have a fortnight to get it all sorted, and you'd hope that everything was actually in place before making the decision to part ways with the current lot.

I can see both sides.

Vigurs’ passing hasn’t been replaced. Not even close.  His passing is top level.  He’d have been wasted in Malkkky’s long ball game, though.

He’d easily be in my all time XI, but the fact that he’s gone to Cove suggests the club were right to get rid.  Likewise Draper.  Gardyne was our only effective winger, but that says a lot about all the other players.

That current team is awful. Absolutely no creativity whatsoever.  f**k Malkkky.

I'd have obviously liked to keep Naismith. I think the biggest factor in not doing so is that Randall was still under contract. He was brought in to be our first choice right back before getting injured and presumably is on a wage to match. Given Naismith has only gone to Kilmarnock we could probably have afforded to keep him, but then you have two specialist right backs on hefty wages that can't be spent elsewhere in a team that desperately needed investment. It's quite possible that, all things being equal, Mackay might have preferred to keep Naismith too.

Other than Naismith, I'd have been tempted to keep Gardyne as an impact sub - but even then only on a wage commensurate to the role. As for the rest of the released players I think they had legitimately reached the end of the road at Ross County.

Thanks Forfinn, that's far more eloquently put than I could be bothered to type but essentially what I was trying to get at. The allocation of wages and length of contract remaining, is something us fans don't consider but is obviously fundamental is decisions.

Vigurs is/was finished, it was a fun giruy to the tinks when they made him player of the season, then signed for us again but he's very rarely delivered this time around.

Have you actually seen Ross County play since the appointment of the new management team because that statement in bold is bollocks.

Fair enough, I get vibes that you're not a fan of the new manager and are possiblity a bit bitter towards the club for your own reasons but we certainly haven't been playing long ball football recently. In fact it's a vast improvement in style to what Hughes had us playing last year.

Not having a single shot on target in the league so far this season isn’t exactly a glowing reference for his style of football, in fairness.

I should really have said that, to be fair.  Hughes’ play was, unlike his reputation, pretty one dimensional.  I don’t see any change from that under Mackay, though. I don’t see any change under Mackay, but quite clearly the team versus Hibs wasn’t his team.

I'm not saying what we're doing is amazing or anything, just that it clearly isn't long ball football and to label it as such is misleading.

Good going with ict's start to the season, were there fans allow in for your match at the weekend? I hope you're appreciating Midge, I think he'll do well for ict in the Championship.

Aye that’s fair enough.

There was just over 1600 with 150 away fans I believe. Which, unfortunately, is about normal for us these days.

He has been fine. I can only really judge from saturdays game. A few very nice passes and crosses. Can clearly see he has quality but the whole pick the ball up on the left wing and cut inside for very predictable very quickly. Not sure if that was his normal game at county and he’s lost a yard of pace or maybe he’s not fully fit yet. Early days though so plenty of time for improvement.

Was that the debenture thing before the ground was redeveloped?

If I recall, the pitch was a seat for life in the new stand for a one off fee.

Although I think Murrayfield did something similar, I couldn't understand the economics of it.

Yeah. I would guess the uptake was below 50.  It was back when professional football was a fresh new adventure.

I thought Vigurs was our best player in our winning run of three games that saw us safe.  I thought he was hindered by Stephen Kelly, who I really expected more from.  He certainly did better under Hughes than Kettlewell.  Him and Naismith should have both been kept on.

No shots on target does seem bleak, but you can hit a ball from forty yards and put it in the keepers hands and be on target or you could be a certain Scotland Striker Vs Norway and miss.  I know what chance was more likely to result in a goal.
