Other leagues have a nice geographical name (apart from Caledonian) but instead of keeping the perfectly acceptable and descriptive "Central Scottish" they go for a shit name like "Premier Amateur"...

Difficult to keep the Central Scottish name. If they did that, it wouldn't really appear to be a merger at all but just the Scottish AFL shutting down.

The Scottish AFL lost 8 clubs for this season plus two more since it started, now down to 14 from 54 in 2014-15 as the smallest west central belt amateur league, so it would be shutting down pretty soon anyway without the "merger"...

Yes, it certainly would but they've agreed a merger and no point in calling it that if they keep the Central Scottish name. Otherwise, it should have just been the league closing down and the 14 clubs applying elsewhere.

Really worrying times ahead even with this merger between the 2 leagues.

With teams leaving the Central to join other leagues its going to be interesting to see the set up of the Premier and 1st division.

Theres a couple of teams already in the Central Premier who appear to be struggling this season.

Wishaw looking for a manager on here last week and going by the post that manager is going to bring in a few players. Hopefully they get someone in place who can take them forward.

Harestanes havent really recovered from there management team leaving last year and the loss of several players going with them.

2 big names within that Central Premier who in previous years have challeged for the big trophies.

Add to that speculation regarding St Pats and what there intentions may be in the coming years, will they stay Amateur?

The new merger is a positive but there are still concerns and still teams struggling. The new league name and how they came to the decision to call it that doesnt fill me with confidence that it will be a lasting success!

It's a bit of an embarrasment tbh. Let themselves down with the name and made themselves look pretty desparate.

Reading the comments, you can see how the amateur game is fkd.

So many people coming out with “I bet the ref bottled it”, “refs fault for not controlling it”, etc…

I bet there will be superficial punishments handed down, whatever is easy for the association, and everyone will just carry on. Possible with 1 more ref handing in their whistle.

Players and officials really need to look at themselves before it’s all over.

No refs = No game

Although it will no doubt be someone else’s fault…

Which teams are joining the Stirling & District? The majority of clubs from that catchment area are now in the Caledonian League. Can only really see Bannockburn, Steins and Dunipace (joining the Caley) in the Central Scottish from that catchment area. Lots of tweets on the Stirling Twitter page advertising for new clubs.

Edit: Tullibody St. Serf's look like one of the new teams.

The new Tullibody team will be joined by Blackburn United's amateur team, who are switching from Sunday football in the Airdrie & Coatbridge league's Premier Division (finished 6th of 8 this season).  That would bring the league back up to 10 teams, but with the best 2 teams, Alva and Riverside, moving to the Caledonian, the quality is certainly going to drop.

St Pats trying to get into the WOSFL as well. The Central is a busted flush imo.

St pats have a greater Glasgow team that I hear will be taking their spot in central (or whatever it’s called now)

Not really like for like quality wise and it's stuff like this thats makes it understandable the likes of Drum Ams have decided to jump ship.

You wonder what the likes of Bannockburn, Lesmahagow and Gartcosh etc are thinking now.

Isn't there a maximum number of teams that the wosfl can have that is rapidly being reached?

Not officially. A rule floated to cap at 80 members but never went to a vote.

With current members the division set up is 16-16-16-16-15. Pretty much at the point where the numbers make it a deterrent from a practicality point of view.

Applicants are going to have to tick all the boxes, otherwise face being turned away.

crazy feet I take it you have some connections to the caledonian league as you are constantly blowing the trumpet for that league and most of your posts are all negatives re the algamation of the 2 leagues

yes drum ams are a decent side to lose but the others joining the cally are not really done much in the big stage dunipace cant get out of the 2nd division if they were still memebers alva are just a flash in the pan stenhousmuir just bounce in and out every year and for giffnock well we will wait and see.

surely you should be asking what we can do to stop the amateur game getting raided by the wos league and if we all joined up like we were trying to do we could get put together a stratedgy to work with the wos in a pyramid type system but hey ho the dinosaurs of the cally and ggpl took a self interest approach and stopped that

no doubt you will give me some sort of negative reply

I don't think amlgamating all of the league solves anything. The biggest issue nowadays is a higher percentage of players don't want to give up their full Saturday Afternoon every single week to play amateur football.

Times have changed and there isn't the same number of players coming through the ranks who have football on a Saturday Afternoon as their Number 1 priority anymore. There is a reason the Saturday Morning League is prospering and getting stronger every year but the top afternoon leagues are going the opposite way.

These amalgamations are just shuffling the deck on the Titanic imo.
