We scored obviously but should Kingsley not get some sort of card there?

That’s what I would have,  after the foul i was expecting red + penalty but the ref rightly left it a second for it to be put away.  I think after that awarding the goal + a yellow would have bet right

Yes, that’s the rule.

It would have been a red for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity, but because advantage was played and a goal scored, a yellow should be given instead.

See this is a prime example of a referee overlooking what happens just before. At the very least VAR should have pinged it.

Saying that 2-0 and playing against 10 men is a poison chalice for us.

VAR can’t intervene to (directly) issue a yellow card.

Yellows are only given after VAR intervention as a consequence of the eventual decision (simulation, certain fouls when conceding a penalty etc.).

Because a goal came from the advantage it doesn’t diminish the cynical nature of the offence. If he two footed Cornelius over wrestling him to the ground would that be a yellow too?

The issue is that you can't play advantage on a red card - play has to be stopped - so the options are either a red and no goal, or advantage, a yellow and a goal. The latter is the fairer.
