The issue is that you can't play advantage on a red card - play has to be stopped - so the options are either a red and no goal, or advantage, a yellow and a goal. The latter is the fairer.

Well this fanny of a ref failed to do so and also failed to ping Shankland there after going for a bit of afters.

Because a goal came from the advantage it doesn’t diminish the cynical nature of the offence. If he two footed Cornelius over wrestling him to the ground would that be a yellow too?

The offence there would be serious foul play and remain a red.

Only if the original foul was (solely) the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity is it downgraded to a yellow on playing advantage.

The rules were changed to allow advantage to be played on a red card in certain situations.

This is about as bad a performance you can deliver from a Hearts point of view.

Terrible defending at both goals. No urgency, bad attitudes and not been nearly good enough in the final third. Hopeless all round.

Fair play to Motherwell, fully deserved win and really good defensively. Haven't really gave us a sniff.

However this pans out. Butcher has been everything we have been missing in central defence. And he is a midfielder 😳.

That would have been a tap in for Shankland with our last central defensive partnership.

Butcher was usually better as a defender for us as well.

He has been excellent today
