I think it is a bit unfair , we most probably get beat tomorrow by 3 or 4 and don’t make it through after winning 3 out of 4 games

Not sure how that's unfair unless you are beaten by someone reaching 9 without winning 3 games?

Teams have failed to go through on 9 points before. What's the alternative, a 17 team last 16?

It's highly unfortunate, it's not unfair.

We all know how it works and there'll always be winners and losers.

As for tomorrow, it's now up to Dundee who play Caley. If Dundee win 1-0, then what happens after as our goal difference would be the same? Does it go onto goals scored?

It goes to goals scored so Dundee will need to win by at least 2 goals unless they win 5-4.

With one game left in the group stage, we have 15 of the 16 second round teams confirmed.

Seeded - Aberdeen, Airdrie, Ayr, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell, Rangers

Unseeded - Kilmarnock, Livingston, Morton, Partick Thistle, Ross County, Stirling, St Mirren, (Raith Rovers/Dundee)

A 2-goal win (or any win at 5-4 or higher) for Dundee over Inverness tomorrow will see them through at the expense of Raith Rovers.

I'll have a look at final tables and the last few years when I get a few minutes but I'm sure someone did it a year or two back and it made precious little odds in who gets through. As I said, typically the best runners up tend to need 9 points anyway. Its more likely to have an impact in the minor placings.

Edit to add :  we got through last year due to the bonus point v St Johnstone. We didnt get that we wouldnt even have been 2nd at all.

So in the end the group winners in ranking order were:
1. Airdrieonians, Group E, 12 points, +5 GD
2. Ayr United, Group A, 11 points, +8 GD
3. Motherwell, Group G, 11 points, +6 GD
4. Livingston, Group C, 10 points, +9 GD
5. Ross County, Group D, 10 points, +7 GD
6. Kilmarnock, Group F, 10 points, + 6 GD
7. St Mirren, Group H, 9 points, +8 GD
8. Partick Thistle, Group B, 9 points, +2 GD

The runners up were:
1. Stirling Albion, Group A, 10 points, +6 GD
2. Greenock Morton, Group D, 9 points, +7 GD
3. Raith Rovers, Group F, 9 points, +3 GD (8 goals scored)
--------------------------------------------------
4. Hamilton Academical, Group C, 9 points, +3GD (7 goals scored)
5. Dundee, Group E, 9 points, +3 GD (5 goals scored)
6. Forfar Athletic, Group H, 9 points, 0 GD
7. Falkirk, Group B, 8 points, +3 GD (8 goals scored)
8. Queen of the South, 8 points, +3 GD (7 goals scored)

What difference did bonus points make?

Motherwell got seeded as a result of the bonus point they got at Palmerston. Without it, both they, and Ayr who also got one, would have been behind Livingston, though Ayr would still have been seeded anyway, just as 3rd seeds, not 2nd.

Raith, and Hamilton for that matter, picked up a bonus point on their way to 9 points, Dundee did not. Neither did Forfar. If there were no bonus points, Dundee would have been the 3rd seeded runner up. QoS, who didn't get one, would have been ranked above Falkirk, who did, but it wouldn't have changed anything in qualifying.

Worth noting also that both Raith and Accies, lost penalty shoot outs, and Queen of the South lost two of them. Raith got through anyway of course so it made no odds. Both would have gone through at the expense of Morton if they'd won them. QoS would have finished ahead of Morton too if they'd won both theirs, though still behind Stirling, Raith and Hamilton if they'd all won the shoot outs they could have done.

That must've been one of the narrowest qualifications to the last 16 since they brought in the groups. After our game finished, you had Accies getting a 96th minute goal to go level with us, only to f**k the penalties. We then had to wait for that Dundee game the next day.

Mad to think if we had drawn at Perth and won the shootout, it wouldn't have been enough, despite being unbeaten in the group.

Good job we thrashed them then 😃

Queen of the South were knocked out unbeaten (in 90 mins.) Would've went through if they'd won the 2 shootouts.

Only 13 from 40 getting through is a bit rubbish. Even worse is that the eventual winners can, and usually do, win the cup after just 4 games.

Both Hibs and Hearts kicking off at home at 2pm Sunday.

I think I'm right in saying we haven't beaten Hearts in a one off cup tie since 1921 (couple of league cup group stage wins in ye olden days, not the current format) and 13 attempts, so... we're due one?

Where are you getting the dates and times of the ties from? I can't get any Twitter site to work.

Losing out on potential revenue because there is Highland Games happening in and around Forthbank on the Saturday (Which is why the league game that day was away to Falkirk). The most diddy of diddy reasons to have a game moved. You would have thought with it being moved to Friday night that Viaplay would have chosen our game as one to cover, but no, a yawn inducing Rangers v Morton clash is apparently more appealing.

It's 11 from 40 getting through!

Unfortunately Viaplay (or whoever they are today) only show the Rangers and Celtic ties. End of story.

It was so much simpler when you turned up on the day and you knew you'd be either through or out.
