Pre-match preview for Ayr doesn't offer much hope on the injury front. Obviously Aiken & Ballantyne long term and it seems unlikely Telfer & McGregor will be back as well as the manager himself listed withs a back injury although he never elaborated. Admittedly sometimes he's not accurate or perhaps telling porkies so as not to give the opposition any clues.

Line up tomorrow will be interesting especially trying to stop Chalmers who tore the arse of Mason Hancock at Airdrie earlier in the season.

Be a good guide to which we are heading ,not as if we didn't know we were short on players to play this level ,but in manager we trust ,

I still think Gabby has goals in him and something to prove. Get him in the box instead of stuck out on the right. We know he can find the net and that is why we were all keen to have him re-sign.

Aye maybe time to show him a bit of faith ,

There is no doubt McCabe is trying different setups to find something that overcomes the failings and that is good. Sometimes it won't work like yesterday. Learn from it and move on

Hopefully Telfer is fit next week and I think we should have another go with the back 5. Megwa is better on the right and Mason came through the game after his injury ok so get him back at wing back. He was the one driving forward yesterday. Janny needs be more central and hang back as he is usually fast enough to cover back if they break.

Rae

Megwa Janny McCabe Fordyce Hancock

Telfer McMaster Frizz

CalGal   McStravick

Called it. Glad to see McCabe can take advice

Yip, got the starting 11 correct which is no mean feat these days although I think its more this with magic floating around anywhere close to Gal and Megwa up against Chalmers after the torrid time he gave Hancock previously cutting in from the right:

                            Rae

       McCabe Fordyce Hancock

Janny Telfer McMaster Frizz Megwa

                    McStravick

                       CalGal

Nope, a back 3 of Megwa Janny Fordyce

Aye, Gallagher is championship level alright 👍 NOT.

Shocking performance. Totally clueless with zero threat up top.

Aye,got to be a worry where next goal is coming from ,we would struggle in league 1 to score ,maybe try shooting past the post or at corner flag maybe hit the net ,maybe,

It's a game of inches Frizzell hits the bar with a cracking drive ( looked like it) a minute later goal down, another unmarked player from a corner, remember Partick identical...

We had chances but I will be honest we lacked commitment when it mattered,  Ayr defenders were willing to go in where it hurts to clear the wall in front of our players,   McStravick is a waste of a jersey,   he does nothing and is knowhere near ready,  Hancock has the ability to play wingback, which means we could maybe play 2 up,  McCabe was moaning at Todorov at the end , he was on for 10 minutes max, give the guy a fair chance FFS...

Let's not sugarcoat this, we will probably be bottom by new year,  we need a new approach, with more commitment we could easily have got something out of the Partick, Dunfermline and today's game

The problem is we're too reliant on Gallagher, no one else looks like scoring.

And someone really has to tell me what Dean McMaster brings to the side, virtually zero contribution going forward, can't beat a man, can't shoot, can't header and virtually 90% passes going backwards. Absolute imposter! Also add McStravick to that he's not yet good enough at this level and needs to gain experience, probably why Linfield let him go.

Missing Aiken and Ballantyne big time.

Is he the wee winger on the left? Thought he was your best player in the first half, looked really eager to take on the full back and create chances, although was more quiet in the second.

Yeah he was pretty poor by his standards as he has a much bigger impact most games.

However, shouts that he’s ‘a waste of a jersey’ are very reactionary and miles off it imo

I've not given up on him but everything breaks down with him. His ball retention is dreadful, he's an impact sub at best.

This all links back to McCabes stubbornness and reluctance to adapt our team to the championship. He should have signed at least 3 championship-level players back in the summer  but he didn’t. He went for unproven youngsters in Aiken, O’Connor, McStravick, G. Gallagher. Only one of those signings has come good. The others being a total waste of a wage and jersey.

You do not use the clubs first season back in the championship to ‘develop’ or ‘test’ out young players because it’s left if with absolutely no options coming off the bench.

We are a team full of league one players trying to pass our way around the championship against physical and direct teams who have sussed us right out. Todorov can also go, he is rotten

Barring a decent free kick from McCabe and shot from Frizzell, we looked like we were aiming for the corner flag or roof of the terracing. The reality is we have a lightweight threadbare squad playing in a league with far stronger physical teams. We are only comfortable (at times) in our own third and recently all we are doing is wasting time when we are losing. McCabe wants 11 players on the park who are comfortable on the ball….I can only assume he has yet to find them.

A couple of shrewd loan signings in January coupled with the return of Aitken and  Ballantyne might turn things around
