The Boys (2019-)

homelander-the-boys.gif.aff947fdc0de22b3513043e7e97b2872.gif

"C'mon, you're not the first person to call me a c**t... I'm starting to think it's a badge of honour"

Anthony Starr and Karl Urban are in good form here as the leader of a bunch of corrupted corporate superheroes and the team of vigilantes who oppose them. Easily better than the shite Marvel puts out anyway.

Homeland (2011-2020)

"It's the lies that undo us"

From Homelander to Homeland as Claire Danes thinks Damian Lewis has been Manchurian Candidated while being held as a POW by Al Quaeda.

Both heavily praised, it won numerous awards, and heavily criticised for Islamaphobic tropes and glorifying torture.

ER (1994-2009)

George-Clooney-ER.jpg.ae03d02ec84db91b9f8d5fb8df62cc96.jpg

"It's a tough job"

Gorgeous George got his breakthrough role in the 2nd longest running primetime medical drama (you'll never sing that). Behind Grays Anatomy obviously.

A poor man's (or should that be sick man's) Casualty imo.

Minder (1979-1994)

minder.jpg.cc5f086ce9fd8b4f778a36522baade6c.jpg

"The world is your lobster"

Trading Standards have their eye on the British comedy double in joint 42nd place. First up is Minder with the iconic Arthur Daley up to no good with his 'minder, Terry' and singer of the theme tune, Dennis Waterman.

Only Fools and Horses (1981-2003)

1473260978-onlyfools.gif.4b40a65b0be26f3062fb1c2adbe1a1ad.gif

"this time next year we'll be millionaires"

Dropping from 14th place in 2012 is the iconic duo of Del Boy and Rodney Trotter as they duck and dive their way across the 80's and 90's from Nelson Mandela House in Peckham with the help of Trigger, Grandad, Uncle Albert and Boycie.

The 1996 episode "Time on our Hands" still holds the record for the biggest UK audience for a sitcom episode at an eye watering 24.3 million. Cushty.

Bojack Horseman (2014-2020)

"I am in pain. All the time"

Surreal adult animation next with the anthropomorphic 90's sitcom star Bojack plotting his comeback in a show that deals well with serious issues such as depression and alcoholism.

At least 47 shows a place higher than they should be. A scandal.

Das Boot (1984) (2018-)

DI5JXZIEABAHTHPAHA3DCFUBZY.thumb.jpg.ac4ccc243a649a48fbee42162c07c5e9.jpg

"nothing but cannon fodder for the navy"

Votes for the original BBC series that expands on the classic film and the newer miniseries here.

Serving as both a sequel to the iconic film of the same name and expanding the story by including the Brits, Yanks and the French Resistance. There's mutiny and defections as the tide turns against Hitler's lads.

Peter Quinn was the real hero of this show.

Genuinely cried at the episode where Dr Green finally succumbed to his brain tumour and died. Brilliant TV at the time.

Derry Girls (2018-2022)

Image(1669243427080).gif.0eb6c459ea1c56c232e6f45838279d99.gif

"Macauley Culkin isn't Protestant Ma!"

Set during the arse end of The Troubles in the Failed Statelet, a group of Derry girls negotiate teenage life and their headmistress Sister George Michael at a an all girls Catholic school.

Often quoted as a 'female Inbetweeners', which I think does both shows a disservice.

Fun Fact: My missus looked like the lassie on the left in the picture above when she was a bit younger, which her pals never tire of ripping the pish out of her for. There is a fair resemblance tbh.

Vikings (2013-2020)

vikings_-_still_-_h_-_2016.thumb.jpg.3d1f6de43cfa8cb1931c43953073d6ec.jpg

"yes I have made mistakes, life doesn't come with instructions"

Based on the Norse Sagas, Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons travel to the UK, France, The Kievan Rus, The Mediterranean and North America in search of fame, fortune and violence.

Wasn't in my top 10, but I do like this.

Family Guy (1999-)

family-guy-episode-300-01.jpg.0761907cc562e870146d5774cf1f3042.jpg

"Bird is the word"

More adult animation with crude humour and cut away gags from Peter Griffin and his family, in Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy. A show with it's fair share of controversies, it does sometimes have a nasty streak of humour tbh. I did watch a fair bit of this when I was younger but I've not seen any of it in a while.

"I'd offer you a beer, but I've only got 6 cans"

Our first foray into classic British sitcom territory sees Britain's premier Geordie TV duo (yeah, you heard me Ant + Dec) chat about beer, women and some class analysis as well. These boys would be all over the Infuriating Things Your Partner Does thread if they posted on here.

True Detective (2014-)

"someone once told me time is a flat circle"

There's been 3, soon to be 4, series of this American crime anthology, but I suspect most, including me, put it in their list for the incredible 1st series featuring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, putting in some of the best work of their careers, trying to catch a killer in the deep south.

South Park (1997-)

"Oh my god, they killed Kenny"

More crude and edgy animation with South Park and its paper cut out style. Another with more than its fair share of controversies, it's managed to upset loads of different groups equally with its 'nothing is off limits and there's no one or no thing we won't take the piss out of' attitude.

Porridge (1974-1977)

"Suffer from any illness? "

"Bad feet"

"Paid a recent visit to a doctor or a hospital ?"

"Only with me bad feet"

"Are you now or have you at any time been a practicing homosexual?"

"What, with these feet ? Who'd have me ?"

It's visiting time at Slade Prison, where Norman Stanley Fletcher is serving at Her Majesty's Pleasure as best he can in the classic 70's comedy.

The Walking Dead (2010-2022)

Quel-ordre-Regarder-TWD.thumb.jpg.d059bddf4b6d00e5e017f931a33e42f1.jpg

"this isn't a democracy anymore"

Based on the comic books/graphic novels of the same name, polisman Rick Grimes awakes from a coma to find the world has gone to shit, the dead have risen and are eating folk for lunch.

A huge show with at least 4 or 5 spin offs, video games etc. I enjoyed this for a while, but it started plodding along aimlessly and I got fed up. Eventually finished it a few months back on the insistence of the wife, who loves it.

A perfect example of how to turn a great show into complete shite and interesting characters into complete dullards.

Still makes me angry thinking about this shitshow.

"War isn't Hell. War is War and Hell is Hell and of the two, War is much worse"

American comedy drama in the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. I think a few of the older gents who voted for this need to come clean and admit they only did so for Hot Lips Houlihan.

The Office (US) (2005-2010)

giphy(17).gif.c4f7c90052b960ee4bc881143edff639.gif

"That puts us at Threat Level: Midnight"

Swapping Slough for Scranton, Wernham Hogg for Dunder Mifflin and Ricky Gervais for Steve Carrell, it's the US version of The Office. Popular in its own right, it's probably one of the best and most successful examples of this sort of Transatlantic franchising out.

intro-1526495347.jpg.0f6a2059d38d371e81a8f064ff580724.jpg

"Good cop and Bad cop have left for the day, I'm a different kind of cop"

A few of us (including me) chose to go dickless for Michael Chiklis as corrupt LA Detective Vic Mackey. He leads his team astray and into all sorts of bother with the cartel, the Armenian Mafia and Internal Affairs.
