Miguel Sanchez
Week 33 update Two deaths this week. First up, actor Gena Rowlands: Gena Rowlands obituary | Film | The Guardian Quote Gena Rowlands, who has died aged 94, was in the tradition of formidable performers such as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford yet, unlike them, she always remained an actor rather than a star. She was, said the critic Kent Jones, “finally a little too weird for superstardom”. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Mary Ellen (nee Neal), an artist and actor, and Edwin Rowlands, a banker and politician, and was something of a sickly child. When her father was appointed, in 1939, to the US department of agriculture, the family moved to Washington DC; they later moved back to Wisconsin, then to Minnesota. She began her career in repertory and summer stock and was spotted in a production at Provincetown Playhouse, Cape Cod (where she also worked as a wardrobe mistress), which led to her being cast as the Mistress of Ceremonies in All About Love at the Versailles Nightclub theatre in New York in 1951. During a period of unemployment, she wrote storylines for the Crime Does Not Pay comic books (“I could tell you what any three-time loser got for assault and battery in any prison in the country”) before first appearing on Broadway as the understudy for the lead in The Seven Year Itch, later taking over the role and touring with it. Another actor from the black and white days, another one whose work I've never seen. She sounds like a laugh. Rowlands died at 94 so she's worth 31 Base Points for @19QOS19 with a Solo Shot bonus giving him 81 points. ========== Second death this week, actor Alain Delon: French film star Alain Delon dies aged 88 | Film | The Guardian Quote Identified with French cinema’s resurgence in the 1960s, Delon played a string of cops, hitmen and beautifully chiselled chancers for some of the country’s greatest directors, including Jean-Pierre Melville, René Clément and Jacques Deray. He also made films with auteurs including Luchino Visconti, Louis Malle, Michelangelo Antonioni and Jean-Luc Godard – though never quite succeeded in his attempts to make it in Hollywood. What I'm getting from his obituary and his wikipedia is that he was an absolute shagger. Good for him. Delon died at 88 so he's worth 37 Base Points for @Aim Here with a Solo Shot bonus taking that to 87 points. As a result, the standings look like this: 1. Ned Nederlander 797 2. The Naitch 593 3. Wikipedia now says he was born on the 12th of August 1965, which was a month after he's alleged to have died(if you ignore the year) so, by my provisional reckoning Ned seems to be due another point. Then again, the dates might be subject to revision at both ends for this guy! Edited August 18 by Aim Here

Google's sidebar that has the first paragraph of a Wikipedia page still spits out a birthday. I assumed it was legitimately scraped from Wikipedia, but it's a bit needle-in-a-haystack to find out which edit, and maybe their large language models are hallucinating it.
