Elgin City vs The Hamilton Globetrotters (Tuesday, 30th Jan)

Recommended Posts

Aside from when Spartans faced off against Stenhousemuir a few weeks back, this re-arranged fixture is probably the most important clash in this season's League Two to date; it's definitely the biggest for both of the sides involved, anyway. A win for Elgin would provide them with a healthy seven point gap over the visitors, and their bizarrely imperious home form to date must make them slight favourites, but Clyde will draw hope from their own recent revival allied to their hosts' defeat at the hands of Dumbarton on Saturday.

Even at just beyond the halfway point of the campaign, this match looks like a must-not-lose for Ian McCall's boys. They'll undoubtedly draw confidence from their past half a dozen league games, in which - with the exception of the Stenhousemuir and Dumbarton games - they have generally been the side in control of proceedings. Elgin have enjoyed a renaissance of their own under new boss Allan Hale, however, and both teams look rather different from those that contested a supremely edgy and low-quality affair at Hamilton back in September, from which Clyde managed one of their paltry two wins up to now. This game should have a lot more quality in general, but I'm sure it will be a similarly cagey affair.

Clyde's last six have been against the current top six in the division, and the only defeats there have been single-goal defeats to the top two. The flimsy team from last season and the start of this is gone.

Elgin have picked up points, but they've had easier fixtures of late on paper, and have also lost to Forfar and Dumbarton in their last two.

CLYDE WIN. But a point will probably do ok.

We’ve been better in the past month or so but a win here would be massive. Would pull Elgin to within a point, and Stranraer to within 5 who are sitting 7th. It’s absolutely a must not lose.

Dont think they do, but do Elgin offer PPV?

I’m afraid not.

Massive game. A Clyde win would make it a very interesting basement battle as Forfar have been poor all season and Stranraer have quietly slipped into contention, they’ve been poor for a while and there’s a real risk they get dragged down.

Despite the magnitude of the occasion, club42 won’t be decided on Tuesday. Also, as I’ve implied, I’m not convinced it’s just a two horse race to avoid bottom this season.

Hard one to call I think both teams will be gunning for it so hopefully that’ll make it a decent game our home forms in our favour but we’ve hardly been a free scoring team this season so il predict a boring draw of 0-0 or surprise us with a 4-4 draw or something like that 😂

Elgin started like a train in fairness, pressed high up the pitch, but they puffed themselves out after about 20 and we have settled down. The temptation with Allan is to try and hit him long all the time and whilst that resulted in a great chance for a second, it also gives up possession too often.

Some stinking performances from Leighfield, Dunachie, Howie. Not sure any of the rest have been that great.

Big second half ahead.
