I’m not one to defend the police but what do you suggest they do? Search every building in the city?

I think the bulk of it originated in Central Asia (e.g. Al Khorezm is a region in Uzbekistan which gave its name to algorithm) but the knowledge came to Europe via the Middle East and North Africa then into Iberia.

Al Jezbra was the name of a book written by a Persian scholar living in present day Uzbekistan.
