Ginaro
One for @HibeeJibee - if this is the 4th oldest trophy in the world, what are the three older ones? (Scottish Cup one of them I assume)

tamthebam
It depends on what we're talking about- physical trophies or the competitions themselves? The Scottish Cup, East of Scotland (City) Cup and by the look of them one or two of the South of Scotland League's Cups are older trophies than the current Scottish Junior Cup. The original Scottish Junior Cup got nicked or lost or pawned or something.

As the trophy was getting too old and retired to Hampden?

Yes, but I think the original still gets presented. The Calcutta Cup is also old. There are other extant trophies that are either not competed for or are too fragile to present such as The Ashes, the original Open Golf Claret Jug (1872) and the Lanark Silver Bell (first engraved in 1628 apparently!). We could go down a rabbit hole here..

I just wondered as I know there's that distinction with the Scottish Cup being older than the current FA Cup, and HJ has told us about old EOS silverware - plus of course the Juniors can sometimes not tell the whole truth...
parsforlife
HJ often takes a break from the forum around this time of year, so we might be waiting for confirmation, Known to me order trophy's are Scottish cup, Fife cup and east of Scotland shield, oldest to newest.

Two clubs in the EOS First Division now in the Junior Cup so in theory they could be paired together for the second round to avoid a forfeit at least... Their Alex Jack Cup record hasn't exactly been great (not made it past the QF, lost to Peebles in R1 last time) so hoping to fare better in the Junior Cup?
bobbydazzler
seen a few posts on the West side of the forum about the disdain for Astros with Cages. can't imagine an away trip to Dalgety Bay would be enticing to them if that is the case
Burnieman
Time for the EoS to ban SJFA membership or participation in the Junior Cup.

But if they don't make it part of the calendar then it's a struggle to play. Maybe they should get round the table and get the tier 5 snd 6 clubs back in and bin the South Challenge Cup. Coz we now have teams wanting to play in junior Cup and it does have a history.

How cups are made part of the calendar. Its the SJFA that don't want to slot into it and don't want midweek cup games.

I'm not sure it's an issue requiring legal approval. The EoS (and LL) can easily change it rules to prevent clubs for taking part in non-sanctioned competitions. In fact there may already be a rule covering that.

Interpretation of your wording, but you are definitely right! The Junior Cup is history and that is where it should remain. Why are some clubs now wanting to take a step back - it beggars belief.
tamthebam
The SJFA don't want midweek cup games? That's why a lot of progressive clubs left them behind.

The SJFA now take 15% off the gate after officials and the home team have to cover guarantees if their opponent travels over 50 miles. The costs involved are why you'll rarely see a midweek game scheduled unless the two clubs agree to it. As they want the weekend to maximise turnout.
