NotThePars
I think coming from a minority complicates the private school discussion somewhat as I can understand why people from BAME backgrounds feel like they have to level the playing field by any means possible but at the same time Sarwar’s kids must be like third generation at a minimum and come from a fucking loaded family lol.

On one hand it's good they are able to see lucidly that it's an awful system that needs bulldozed. On the other hand they should realise they've reached a position of influence at least partly due to the edge their education has provided. Folk who spout socialism then put their kids in swank schools should be pitilessly attacked though. Naturally, Corbyn and co were awful for that. I saw a poll on Twitter today re voting intentions and saw Labour amazingly with an increase, I'm not sure this is post Leonard or not, also showed the SNP going downwards, I'm certain it will already be posted somewhere here knowing the forums attention to such things. -

SANTAN
Just now, MixuFruit said: Didn't Corbyn and his first wife divorce in part over schooling their kids? She wanted to send them private and he wanted them to go to a comprehensive? Diane Abbott deserves criticism for double standards on this but I don't think Corbyn does. I can't imagine that being the actual reason but that was reported It was more aimed at the front bench MPs and shadow cabinet at the time, Abbot was one of a gang.

I suppose this is the absolute crux of the matter though. You could argue that people from minority groups should understand more than anyone why uneven playing fields are a damaging thing. Seeking to balance out inequality of opportunity in a way that benefits yourself is a fundamentally different principle to reducing inequality uniformly. Whilst I do have some sympathy for the former position, I still think it's part of the problem.

Detournement
Starmer's office now have a veto over every single potential candidate before they even get in front of a CLP. Starmer's job isn't to win the next election it's to completely neuter the Labour Party so it never goes against NATO policy again. Corbyn is obviously beyond the pale but even Ed Milliband blocking an escalation of the war on Syria will never be allowed to happen again.

invergowrie arab
Of the CLPs nominating so far (excel. Glasgow where I imagine Sarwar can drum up local support). It seems to be breaking (roughly) central belt for Lennon. There could be a race here.

DA Baracus
48 hours! Get fucked so far with that. 38 hours is far too much. 5 days is far too much. There should be a massive push to a 4 day week to start.

Carnoustie Young Guvnor
A 48 hour week and 'the right for rest breaks' wow that's radical. In 1820.
Highlandmagar
I'm sure that 48 hour week us in relation to the EU working directive of a person does not have to work MORE than 48 hours per week unless they opt out. In comparison to the Tories who want to abolish it and make it legal for companies to whip you to death while working on the plantation.
Theroadlesstravelled
If Labour are wanting to protect a 48 hour working week then what are the Tories trying to set it at? Taking away people’s holiday pay and blaming the EU would be classic England.
