It’s because the Queensland Government has reintroduced quarantine restrictions due to the Greater Sydney Covid outbreak. They don’t want to go into another 14 day quarantine hotel stay. CA will probably be happy to have another Sydney Test.  Without looking up current restrictions I don’t think India can avoid quarantine in any other state unless granted an exemption by that state government.

A happy coincidence for the Indians, given Australia’s amazing record at the Gabba. During the 18-19 series between these two the Gabba also didn’t get its traditional first test of the summer.

Williamson just made another century (103) and Nicholls on 74. NZ now 260/3.
If anyone is interested NZ Cricket is live streaming some games from their Dream 11 women’s and men’s T20 competition through their NZC YouTube channel.
New Zealand ran away with it overnight, with those two adding 369 for the 4th wicket, before Nicholls was out for 157. Williamson finally went for 238 with the Kiwis declaring on 659-6.

Pakistan are 10-1 in reply, 354 runs behind.

At tea on day 4 in Wellington to win Pakistan need 228 runs, New Zealand 3 wickets. After taking 5 wickets in the first innings Kyle Jamieson has done it again and currently has 5/33 from 15 overs. This isn’t going to a fifth day.

After all the hype in media here thankfully the cheating c**t who should never have been allowed to wear the baggy green again was out for 5. Pishing down in Sydney so play stopped Australia 1/21.

Australia finish the day on 166-2, debutant Will Pucovski made 62, while Labuschange is 67* and Smith 31*.

It should be pointed out that the accusations are against the fans, not any players.

Yes, this is true. Pretty disappointing that it's still allegedly happening in this day and age, there is being a bit mongrel, then there is being an utter arsehole.

Fantastic session of test cricket that. If these two can see off the new ball, then it could get very interesting. Gutted that I'm working in the morning. Bedways is rightways.
I went to bed just after 1 with India looking fairly comfortable. Not that surprised to see that they managed to hold out for the draw.

Moeen Ali required to further isolate and now likely to miss the entire series. Be interesting to see how England line up. You'd imagine they will likely play two spinners in Sri Lanka, Bess and AN Other. But leaves you light on batsmen with no stokes. Do you play Foakes or Bairstow as specialist batsmen as I can't see Buttler being dropped and Anderson, Broad and Woakes are certs I'd think.

Bairstow looks like he'll be batting at 3, with Sibley and Crawley opening. On the spinners, I do think they'll do with 2, but they might consider going with Bess + using Root and Lawrence to make up to another between them. They are all off spin though, so I suspect they'll go with Leach to give them something different.

ETA:

I reckon I'd go

Sibley

Crawley

Bairstow

Root

Lawrence

Buttler

Curran

Woakes

Bess

Wood

Leach

I don't see much value in Broad or Anderson putting miles on the clock in Sri Lanka, but I expect one will play each game.

The only thing id say about Anderson is that he hasn't played a lot of cricket recently so they might want him to get some overs in. Wood being fit for both matches would be a miracle (I really like Wood though). Hard to see any of the squad fillers pushing their way into the team when everyone is available tbh
