die hard doonhamer
Toss 5 minutes away, stat delayed half an hour. England to win the toss, bat, and be 50-7 at lunch.
Arthur Orton
I wonder how Bairstow will be despatched for his 30 this time around. Lbw or clean bowled.

Moomintroll
I'm not really sure that England are cut out for this test lark.
peasy23
Who would have thought England would lose another wicket with a ball edged to the slips?Once again Root at the crease with the ball almost still brand new.
peasy23
17th time in 30 innings that Root has come out to bat with the score less than 30. Only 9 times it has been over 50, and twice over 100.

Benjamin_Nevis
185 all out [emoji23] Aussies knocking off nearly a 3rd of that in 13 overs for no loss.
peasy23
185 all out [emoji23] Aussies knocking off nearly a 3rd of that in 13 overs for no loss. It's pitiful stuff. No doubt after yet another chastening defeat we will hear all about how England will learn from this blah blah blah.I don't know exactly what they supposedly learned from the last match. Yet again senior players handed their wickets away. On the bowling they showed a terrific graphic comparing the first 10 overs from each side. Australia had 60% in the good length bracket, England had 63% short.

Australia had 60% in the good length bracket, England had 63% short. Really interesting stats, particularly the first. Root aside, this is probably the most gutless top order in test cricket. The openers are absolutely hopeless, and Root must be sick fed up of coming in whilst the ball is still new. Stokes looks a shadow of his former self, and the bowling attack is pretty much two class but near-retired seamers and a shite spinner. Remove Root from that side and you've got a team which would lose to the mid to late 90s joke sides. Lessons won't be learned because those involve dealing with the enormous primacy of white ball over red ball cricket domestically. There is simply too much invested in white ball stuff to address that.
peasy23
Interestingly BT have overhauled the commentary team for this test, can only assume they got a lot of complaints about using the Aussie commentators. We had the likes of Simon Mann, Dan Norcross and David Gower on the mic instead.Mark Taylor was good on co-comms earlier this morning. He was making the point that England's bowlers are all a bit samey, especially Anderson and Robinson. Like most folk he has found team selection strange. He reckoned that with Broad having got Warner out 7 times in 10 innings in the last Ashes, that surely you start him in the first test as he would be the last guy Warner would want to see.Wood was unlucky this morning, he had a spell consistently bowling 145-150kph and beat the bat several times, but just couldn't find an edge.
Wee-Bey
Lovely to wake up to that this morning. 50 ducks this year for England, just 4 short of the record.
ecto
Beginning to think, to many of these England batsmen, play far to much limited overs cricket, and not enough proper cricket
Benjamin_Nevis
Beginning to think, to many of these England batsmen, play far to much limited overs cricket, and not enough proper cricketThey're just not very good players at test level. They're absolutely built for limited overs cricket, and even when one shows potential to play a dogged wicket-over-my-dead-body innings, such as Buttler last time out, he still managed to get out in totally LOLworthy fashion. To be brutally honest, they're just a shite test side.

The strange (?) thing is England have talked quite a good game whillst being pretty awful on the pitch, on all fronts, they can only hope Australia take their foot of the pedal for the last two Tests.
