Hi nade, not a hardtail but my mate has this and you'll be hard pushed to find a better spec for the money

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-520s-full-suspension-mountain-bike-id_8322501.html

Cheers Lorel

Like you say, that's unreal spec for the money.

Its maybe a wee bit too high spec for what I want tbh, as I need to be able to take it out on canal paths etc with the missus, so maybe a bit too much on it for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Flying out to Tenerife tomorrow for five nights. Staying in Puerto de la Cruz and hiring a road bike. Going to stick to flattish coastal roads (rather than attempt Mount Teide :o ). Can't wait.. :)

Well, that went badly.

Picked up my bike at 9.30am, had a crash at 10.00am and have broken my arm. :(

Flew back early on the Wednesday and am waiting for a slot for an operation to fix it. Apparently it's an unusual break so the hospital want an upper limb specialist to do it.

Christ that's shit! Was it the unfamiliar bike?

It's always a risk of course, I go through phases of shitting it on the bike.

Hope you mend well and are ready to go again in the spring. Good luck.

Thanks. There was a drain going across the width of the road, with the spaces between the bars going in the same direction as I was , a bit of a hazard for cycling! Front wheel went in the space and threw me forward. Didn't see it at all, well at least until I was lying on my back wondering what the f@ck just happened.

Santa brought me a rear rack and bag for Christmas because I've been wanting to get my bag off my back when commuting.

I've fitted it (fiddly, but got there) but have encountered a practical issue - the bag is a top bag, which obscures my rear reflector and lights. I'm now struggling to find any ready-made solution to mount a reflector and light(s) to the rack itself.

The rack is this - http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/ftb/commute-accessories/commute-accessories/specialized-elite-rear-rackAs you can see, it has a small vertical bracket with two holes and apparently Specialized used to make reflectors and lights for it, but they don't seem to anymore. The tubes of the rack are too thin for a seat post bracket to fit round.

Anyone any ideas?

I've got one of these on my touring set up to take the front light above the bar bag.

Not sure if it would go small enough to fit on to the frame of your rack.

Failing that take it to a blacksmith and get him to jimmy something up.

I made a small 90 degree aluminium plate bracket with some holes, nothing fancy and bolted it to the tail of the rack. Cable tie some lights to it using the holes.

Kinda like a wee mudflap with lights.

Sorry, I should post a pic.

I'm no authority but would it be possible to fat-up the rack tube to take a bracket?

Thanks for the suggestions. There is a loop on the bag, but I'm not sure how a light is supposed to attach to it. In any case, I'd prefer something more permanent on the bike itself.

I did find this on Amazon, which might help - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cateye-REAR-MULTI-MOUNT-BRACKET/dp/B005MMQBYU/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1451397062&sr=1-1&keywords=rear+multi-mount+bracket The middle hole should allow it to be mounted to the bracket that came with the rack, but even if it doesn't then there's plenty of other holes for cable ties.

It seems strange this isn't easier. I'd have thought a bracket that adds a vertical seat post-width tube to a rack would be quite common.

Eventually sussed out posting a pic. I hope...

My aluminium bracket. Lightweight, basic and cost next to nothing.

I made this for a cycle trip a few years ago and wanted to have multiple lights at the rear.
