stanton
8 hours ago, Allan Jacobsen said: His case isn't being heard before a jury. It will just be before a Sheriff. The Daily Record have mixed their legal terms up. They said that the Advocate Depute opposed bail and that a preliminary hearing was fixed. These are High Court terms. It would have been a Fiscal Depute with a pre-intermediate diet meeting being fixed. It then speaks about an intermediate diet and trial diet. These are terms used when it is calling in the Sheriff Court before a Sheriff rather than a jury. I have seen s1 DASAs, which this is, being indicted at High Court level. This one doesn't appear to be though. I'd imagine it's calling at Selkirk because it can accommodate a 3 day trial which this is down as lasting. From memory, Jedburgh is a small court. It could, of course, be that the alleged offence was committed within the jurisdiction of Selkirk but it wouldn't really explain why he appeared from Jedburgh unless custodies are heard from there by default. It's also the default position for the Crown to oppose bail in general when it comes to breach of bail allegations. I'd imagine this will be his final chance and if he breaches his bail conditions again, the Sheriff will take a dim view and remand him. No matter though, he shouldn't be anywhere near the Scotland team. Jedburgh on a Monday morning is where you usually end up if you’ve been in the cells at Hawick all weekend

She’s treading a very fine line regarding contempt of court.

Playoffs also bizarre: why not just have 2x QFs then 2x SFs rather than 6 teams in 3x QFs and "lucky loser"?

Looking at this 11 teams competing as follows; ACT Brumbies, Blues, Chiefs, Crusaders, Fijian Drua, Highlanders, Hurricanes, Moana Pasifika, NSW Waratahs, Queensland Reds and Western Force Teams will play 14 regular season matches, consisting of seven home games and seven away games, and be allocated two byes. Teams will play four teams twice, with a focus on rivalry match-ups, and the six remaining teams once The extra games will be form one from the same country

No idea on the history and SRU’s reasoning for not backing him (even he says there is bad blood in his quotes). The Offside Line covered some of the issues in July Quote He was a long-standing and influential co-opted member of the old Scottish Rugby Council from 2010 until becoming Chair of the SRL Board after the sudden resignation of Colin Grassie in May 2020, initially appointed on an interim basis before being given a full three-year term. In those roles, he was either complicit in or the architect of several significant scandals which seriously eroded trust and the financial wellbeing in Scottish Rugby, including the inhumane handling of the Siobhan Cattigan tragedy, former CEO Mark Dodson’s eye-watering remuneration packages, and the implementation of a post-Covid business strategy which led to a £10.5m loss being reported in the 2022-23 accounts with a similar or larger shortfall expected for 2023-24. Jeffrey was a fierce and active opponent of the governance review which eventually created the Custodian Board as a backstop against executive failings such as those described above, then abruptly resigned from his position as director and Chair of Scottish Rugby Ltd in April last year, just two weeks after being extensively quoted in a press release from Murrayfield which accused the governance review of being guilty of “institutionalised discrimination”. https://www.theoffsideline.com/john-jeffrey-world-rugby-chair/
