ICC prosecutor has today submitted an application for an arrest warrant, for Benjamin Netanyahu, along with Hamas leaders, for war crimes.

Israel is a terrorist state and should be treated as such.

Some might say Israel only came about due to terrorism ; bombing of the King David Hotel , the car park murders , Deir Yassin massacre , the murder of UN envoy Count Folke Bernadette and his bodyguard , etc , etc

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I believe Israel 1.0 used magic trumpets to take the land from the canaanites.

The yanks hissyfit is fantastic.  Especially considering they basically told the world recently that they believed war crimes had been committed.

I keep hearing that the Iranian government isn't terribly popular due to being more oppressive than most of their people would like; for those of us who live in ignorance, is this likely to change anything, or will things in Iran remain pretty much as-is?

Iran has a "Supreme Leader" who is also a fucking p***k. I doubt this will change anything.

Edited to add: not for the better anyway.

Didn't think so. Thanks.

I do enjoy the concise political summaries you get on P&B.

Going by the bits and pieces I've read or listened to today from folk who know their stuff, it'll neither improve nor worsen things. In 2021, the Supreme Leader dispensed with the very limited democracy Iran had and just handpicked the president who died today. This now dead president was supposedly more severe than the previous one. There were then huge protests in 2022 and 2023. The state murdered hundreds of the protesters in response. The Supreme Leader has been tightening the screws not loosening them in recent times so he'll replace this dead president with one equally as harsh.

The 4 main world powers - China, Russia, India and the USA don't recognise the ICC, which makes you wonder what's the point? The only country to sign & ratify membership in the Middle East is Jordan.

So Biden thinks there’s no equivalence between Hamas and Netanyahu.

How many more incidences like this need to be uncovered to change his mind.

Gazans ‘shackled and blindfolded’ at Israel hospital

The willingness of the West, with the honourable exceptions of ROI and France, to ignore, or worse excuse, the actions of the Israeli government will be judged for years to come.

Even if he's right and they're not equivalent, it doesn't mean that Israel is innocent of war crimes.

The charge isn't "being the same as Hamas".

Doddery auld c**t. (Biden that is)

Given the current political situation in the US I’m inclined to cut Biden a lot of slack.

If the forthcoming election was even close to ‘normal’ I’d be willing to risk the election of a Republican President but the thought of a second Trump Presidency chills the blood.

So there’s a difficult electoral balance between placating the American public who are mainly pro-Israel and doing the right thing.

* Of course maybe it’s not electoral and Biden is one of those who genuinely thinks Israel can do no wrong.

** There’s an irony that those in the US who might be happy with attacks on Jews are not supporters of Biden but supporters of Trump.
