  1. This guys career was doomed the minute he was being touted at such an early age. He'll probably make a lot of money without kicking a ball though so why should he be that bothered?
  2. Apart from carrying out a terror campaign in Iran assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists.
  3. I don't ever remember Motherwell playing East Stirlingshire in the whole time I've been following them so that's 25+ years. Can't remember a match against Berwick Rangers either.
  4. I never really understood what an 'emo' band was and what made them different from any other vaguely alternative rock group. However I have heard And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead occasionally refered to as an emo band and I like their early records. Saw them at QMU a while back as well. They went rubbish after Sources, Codes and Tags it has to be said, I believe there was a line up change.
  5. The Palestinian rockets are home made in garages. The Palestinians know they probably won't make it through the missile shield and if they do they will probably land harmlessly and do next to no damage, particularly when fired at long range. This is born out by the fact the 2 Israeli citizens and 1 non citizen have been killed by rockets fired from Gaza. Do the people firing these rockets have murderous intent? Perhaps, but these rockets aren't even really military grade weapons, there main purpose is as an act of defiance against an 'oppressor' and to provide some means of exerting psychological pressure on the Israelis. Despite this Israel has every right to defend its people and soil even from a threat that is extremely minimal. If Israel had gone into Gaza and secured 'buffer zones' that made the firing of these rockets into Israel ineffective I don't think there would be much to complain about. But that is not what Israel is doing. Israel is trying to destroy the entire infrastructure of Gaza, water supply, power stations, schools, housing and everything else...including it's people. What is happening in Gaza is one of the very worst examples of the strong destroying the weak in modern history. The disparity in the casualties speaks volumes, 600 Palestinians to every 1 Israeli civilian. Both sides have legitimate areas where they can point the finger of blame at each other but of those areas of blame you cannot possibly ascribe the same value to each side. The lack of proportionality from Israel is obscene to such a degree that in my opinion it constitutes a crime against humanity.
  6. Israeli civilians killed : 3. Palestinian civilians killed : 700+. And that's just in the last two weeks. Extend that sort of death ratio back over a much longer time scale and you can clearly see Israels actions have not been proportionate.
  7. Yesterday was the first time I'd picked up a book since the World Cup started. It's seriously eaten into my reading time. Currently reading Sir Isaiah Berlin's 'The Crooked Timbers of Humanity'.
  8. Imagine someone from Barrhead murdered someone (not hard to imagine admittedly) and the police blew up the home of the accused with explosives and then the RAF conducted a large number of airstrikes against the town destroying the infrastructure of Barrhead. That's what's happened.
  9. Most fights are entirely avoidable and the risks of injury or criminal prosecution far outweigh the ridiculous reason for the confrontation. It's almost always best to walk away and stay calm. I'm quite a big guy and I don't get much trouble and I'm well able to defend myself if I do but I'm not really cut out for fighting. For instance once, a mad ned steamer threw a bottle at me when I was walking up the street minding my own business. It literally landed at my end of my toe of my shoe and shattered. Another inch and it would have brained me. I turned round and gave him a few choice words out of sheer anger without thinking about it. They didn't take to kindly to it and came over pretty aggressive towards me. They were obviously coming for me so I just threw a punch as hard as I could and knocked one of them right on his arse. The other guy wasn't so brave when faced with a one on one. It was the first time I ever threw a punch as an adult and it actually left me quite shaken. I sparked the guy right out. At the time I felt furious, raging, frightened, aggressive and out of control, not something I want to be. Later, away from the incident I felt really bad for hurting someone to that extent even though I didn't have much option and was really frightened that he might be seriously injured and that I was even capable of what I had done to the extent that I felt quite depressed. I was also terrified that the police would come to my door and arrest me. I can't imagine the other guy felt too great either. He got knocked out on the street and totally humiliated. It was a rotten couple of days in my head until it started to blow over. Why anyone would go looking for trouble I honestly don't know but I know people who's Saturday night isn't complete without some kind of rammie. You read all the time in the paper about people being killed with one punch, they fall hit their head and that's it. Why anyone would take those kinds of risks I have no idea. Since then I've been involved in a few scuffles with drunk idiots (mainly at taxi ranks, in the time honoured tradition) but I've tried to moderate the level of force used to the absolute minimium required.
  10. While I'm here the automated voice on Scotrail trains that regularly tells us "This train stops at Blanark" and "This train stops at Khamilton Central".
  11. I've just read about Poppy, the worlds oldest cat, who has died. RIP Poppy but the article annoyed me because it said Poppy was 114 in 'cat years'. 'Cat years' and 'Dog years' really piss me off. A year is a year for all things on planet Earth. It doesn't matter what species you are.
  12. Does anyone know why some truck cabs have a set of wheels that are raised off the ground? It's usually the middle set. Not a terribly important question in the great scheme of things but I see a lot of trucks with wheels raised off the ground and I wonder why....
  13. After his showbiz career dried up Hercules the Bear worked laying linoleum flooring for Clackmannanshire Council.
  14. I've gone with sit coms rather than the more open 'comedy show' just because it would be too hard just to pick five. 1. Seinfeld 2. Blackadder 3. Spaced 4. Handcock's Half Hour 5. Phil Silvers Show
  15. As of 22nd May 2014, former Hearts and Rangers defender Dave McPherson is only 4.7 miles short of knitting the worlds longest scarf. The current record stands at 33.74 miles.
  16. City officials in Bamberg, Germany fined the Soviet Union 200 Deutschmarks after a faeces from Laika the dog, the first animal in space, re-entered the earths atmosphere and landed in a park in the Alte Hofhaltung district of the city.
  17. WHO THE f**k DESIGNED THE NEW BBC IPLAYER?!!!!!!!!! What a pigs breakfast that is.....
  18. It's variable. Depends on weather, time of day and year and other conditions. I've personally never had too much of a midgie problem on the Way but Kinlochleven village at dusk was really bad, you literally couldn't stay outdoors. Personally worse than midgies have been clegs. I've been bitten several times around the area from Tyndrum to Blackmount area. I think it might be because there are a lot of sheep on that section that they proliferate but I'm no expert.
  19. My European Train Tip. Whatever you do don't get the train from Rome to Syracuse. Turns out 12 hours in a 110 degree train carriage with 5 other people isn't that comfortable. Probably want to split that journey in two....
  20. Got a new job. £200 extra a month. Hooray! I'm gonna break the postman's back with Amazon parcels.
  21. 7, which is not bad and better than average by 2. Crassus was the third member of the Roman Triumvirate. He's reckoned to be the richest man that ever lived in all of history and when the Parthians defeated the Romans and captured him they acknowledged the fact by executing him by pouring molten gold down his throat. Oh, those Parthians with their ironic execution methods!
  22. Soccernet has the most detailed Scottish stats but they aren't as detailed as Opta. You can get things like assists, shots on goal, total shots, fouls committed, fouls suffered etc though.
