The obvious need is a goalscorer which is always the most difficult to get,  as bad as the team has been this season, if we had a regular goalscorer, we would probably still be in league 1.  Other teams on low budgets seem to be able to source and recruit far better than we have for a few years now, can’t remember the last time we had a successful recruitment, we always end up with the dross.

We had one but decided to sell in January. Now we are relegated and Jordan Allan spent the second half of the season mostly warming the bench. Hardly a success for either party.

Our recent players who have came in from that level- Cameron, Rodden, Scullion all look really really small on the park which is fine but none of them barring maybe scullion later on down the line had the strength to play at league  1 level. Cameron and Rodden were brushed aside, Rodden looked really really out his depth.

Scullion was at Fauldhouse who aren’t even a WoS or EOS premier side but about three tiers below that so the fact that he has grown into a player we should be looking to keep for League 2 is a relative success.

Cameron, Olly McDonald and Hendji (I think) were all signed from a piss poor Gretna side that finished near the bottom of the lowland league and are likely far worse than many of the former junior teams queueing up below that level.

Rodden was a disappointing one, on paper a left back from the lowland league team of the season had a lot of potential, didn’t work out but we certainly didn’t persevere with him for long. By contrast, John Craig was very poor at first and has developed a fair bit during his time with us.

  3. Surely worth contacting the club and telling them if Duffy stays they can ram it. If enough fans do this they will need to act. He should have been emptied and the job advertised by now. Duffy will drag his heels on signings anyway (has previous for doing so), be as well appointing someone new even if it means waiting a few weeks for signings.

There is no doubt whatsoever that Gibson was concerned about Quitongo, stopped the game and called on help immediately, he couldn't have done anything more.

Most weeks fans will get away with giving their 'interpretation' of events but unfortunately when the whole thing is live on TV that nonsense will get called out, which has happened here.

If that was my friend lying there I would probably have stayed beside him and been more concerned with that than gesturing up to fans or squaring up to folk in the dugout but he’s obviously a bit of a weapon. Not sure what triggered it off initially but surely he could have ignored any shouts instead of behaving like he did given the circumstances.

The incident itself was awful but nothing at all to do with Gibson, hope Rico has a speedy recovery.

  5. Dreadful end to a dreadful season. Deservedly relegated on the park and a rudderless shambles off it. Worrying times.

Don’t get what shouting f**k off at the few, clearly gutted players who came over to the fans at full time achieved but each to their own. There’s plenty of places to direct your anger but Kurtis Roberts and wee Scullion were hardly prime targets.

  6. Whatever happens tonight we need things sorted ASAP. Being involved in the playoffs already means we are a couple of weeks behind most clubs in terms of contracts and recruitment. Duffy is notoriously bad for last minute shopping too, I’m talking 7 signed players on the eve of the league cup campaign type situation.

If we are planning to replace him I hope something is lined up to happen immediately (but I doubt it).

  7. I think some of the younger guys could be worth persevering with scullion, Cameron and olly McDonald have shown some ability at times. Given they’ve been bedded in for a season and we will likely drop a level they could do a job. In saying that I wouldn’t be too disappointed if they leave.

McLean is done, more than a few goals recently have been from balls over him and running in behind.

Let’s just see how tomorrow night goes first as that may have some bearing on the budget.

So he needs to be played up top to keep him in and around the penalty box. He's much more of a goal threat and generally just a much better player than Doherty.

I swear, only a Clyde fan could want the player who literally scored 100% of our goals over both ties to get dropped for the next game. You must have seen the difference Rennie made when he came on. An absolutely unhinged take.

It’s hardly an unhinged take to suggest a guy who busts a gut for the team is a preferred choice to a guy who looks like he can’t be arsed being there but managed to score a couple of tap ins. All about opinions though I suppose.

  9. Put as big, strong and fit an 11 as we can muster on the park Tuesday night. The idea somebody floated of going to 3 cbs to bring in McGeever is a good shout, as our full backs aren’t great.

All about keeping the tie alive going into the second leg IMO, something Dumbarton failed dramatically to do.

    Something like this:

    mullen

    lyon sula McLean McGeever craig

    hynes

    cuddihy Roberts

    salkeld

    docherty

Although we won the tie tonight I'm still raging with that performance. To be outplayed by a team finishing fourth in League Two is an indication of where we are and where we are about to end up.

We have a striker, Doherty, who rarely scores, can't hold up the ball, can't header the ball and has no ability to run in behind. I genuinely think he offers less than Robert Jones (I can't believe I'd ever say that about a anything other than a more covered rock).

That's quite a problem when we continually miss out the midfield with high balls aimed in his general direction only for him to immediately lose possession.

And he's here next season too!

The midfield, other than a five minute period towards the end of the first half, and for most of the season have zero ability to impose themselves on a full strength opposition. Only with the sending off did they start to dominate but along with the defenders moved the ball at a snails pace finally ending with an easily defended cross into the box.

Finally, Jim Duffy, please just piss off. I don't think I could bear to watch such mind numbing football next season.

I don’t disagree with a lot of what you are saying, tonight’s performance was a shocker but we were much better and more composed in the first leg so tonight was a surprise in that regard. Our home form has generally been better in the second half of the season too.

Docherty puts in a power of work for the team usually, he was just back from injury tonight. He’s not a natural goal scorer but can’t fault his effort and attitude. I find Rennie far more frustrating, he is so lacklustre most of the time. Yes, he’s won us the tie with both goals but he doesn’t offer much in general play at all.

Our away form is particularly abysmal, we’ve managed 6 points away from home all season and three of those were on the opening day in Dumfries. As such I would be reasonably happy with a draw tonight, given that our home form has been decent in the second half of the season.

Not a bad time to notch only our second away win of the campaign.

  12. A 10 team league with FOUR b-teams is just a non-starter. If they absolutely must be in the pyramid (and I like many would prefer they were not) it has to be in a bigger league like it is now in lowland league to dilute the number of times you need to play them and to reduce the impact of their erratic team selections on the sporting integrity of the league.

The problem is that playing at lowland league level is not a high enough standard to develop players for the best teams. Of course the conference league idea does nothing to address this which begs the question, what is the point?

If they are determined to force in b-teams (at a better level) it needs to be part of a wider review. Something like a 12 team premier, 16 team championship and the remaining 14 teams forming a division with 4 b-teams would be the best of a bad bunch possibly. It would avoid relegating everyone in the pyramid, in fact it would effectively promote everyone by removing a tier. It would also be a must to introduce automatic promotion/relegation between the third tier and highland/lowland league.

However, none of this seems better than just loaning players out to a decent level IMO.

For the simple reason as has been pointed out several times at owners meetings, we do not own our own stadium, therefore cannot generate any income.  There is also no barrier to any wealthy investor putting money into the club but sadly they are not willing to do so at present.  I seriously cannot understand why people struggle to understand these concepts.

By your logic, would our budget have been much higher by staying at Broadwood?  Or in reality would it have been as low as every previous year?

the only way we progress as a club is by owning our own stadium it is really that simple.

So jumping ship to share with hamilton hasn’t helped in any way and we’d have been better sitting tight at broadwood until something concrete was in place.

    Glad we’ve cleared that up.

In terms of budget I have no doubt our attendances would’ve been better at broadwood, some games this season at hamilton it looks like we’ve had about 2-300 despite what the ‘official’ quoted figures claim.
