Clyde FC; Season 2022-23
Clyde01 replied to the_bully_wee's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
If we are going to stick to the 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1 type formation which is about the best fit for what we have player wise then I would go something like: Parry Lyon McLean sula Kennedy Cuddihy grant gomis rodden Cunningham Allan I absolutely hate having Lyon in there but if he doesn’t play then Cuddihy needs to drop back and I can’t see who plays right midfield then. Scullion had a cameo at RB yesterday but not sure if that’s a position he can fill moving forward. Roberts is a decent player too but he really needs to be played centrally to get the best out of him. The lack of options at full back and even left/right midfield are criminal. Cuddihy is the only one I’m happy with in those positions. -

Garbage today, knew it would be as soon as I saw that line up. Besides Ray Grant, Jordan Allan and Neil Parry should be the next two names on the team sheet. We are abysmal in the full back positions and a raw 18 year old lad from Killie isn’t going to help, early to judge but he looks no better than what we have. Rodden looked ok when he came on and could be worth giving a run in there or playing in front of Kennedy as a left midfielder. Ross Lyon, Ewan Cameron, Kurtis Roberts, Peter grant and the keeper were all poor to dreadful. We do have some good players but with the other personnel around them they don’t stand a chance at the moment. -
Got to agree with this, maybe include the keeper too.
-
We were horrific last week so of course it’s the exact same line up this week. Ross Lyon is absolutely terrible, awful touch, awful decision making, awful final ball. If I hadn’t already bought my ticket I’d be staying at home seeing that team. Three left backs on the bench too so at least there’s plenty of cover for chocolate legs Kennedy. This will be a pumping. Whilst full back is a real area of need I’m not exactly buzzing at the signing of an 18 year old lad from killie. Wasn’t impressed at all with Devenney we had from them previously. We already have Hendji and Rodden on the books too who don’t look up to it and obviously Danny agrees given we’ve been playing Paul Kennedy in there. So there’s money being pished away on guys that aren’t going to get a look in. Hopefully this new lad is decent and solves a problem for us but there still has to be massive questions over recruitment. -

As for Broomhill, they are a tacky novelty act based on chronic patter and whoring themselves to armchair old firm fans. It’s embarrassing seeing unsustainable, financially doped pish like that challenging for promotion to the SPFL proper while promotion from below is throttled to slow the progress of genuine big teams from the WoS in particular. The lowland league is an absolute shit show and the sooner b-teams, uni teams and glorified boys clubs are flushed out of it the better. -

The lack of any quality at all in the full back positions is killing us imo. Need to get Cuddihy fit and playing RB, not sure how we fix the LB issue, Kennedy has looked about the best bet but again fitness issues. A back 4 of Cuddihy sula McLean Kennedy is about the best we can offer. Not at all impressed with Peter Grant or Thicot at this stage and probably would go as far as saying they are money that could be better spent elsewhere, given they are likely 2 of the highest earners. -
Lost 4 in a row conceding 13 goals. Same pattern every week, missing our chances at one end and letting in cheap goals at the other. I was buzzing after the performance at QOTS but sadly that’s been a major outlier and things seem to be getting worse each week. Need a turn around quick or it’s time up for Lennon imo.

It’s not much use being far better than Peterhead when we can’t beat them ourselves and will likely gift them 10 points in matches against us.

FC Edinburgh Athletics Club vs Clyde

Giving this a miss as £18 to watch from a different post code is scandalous. Sadly I see falkirk and Dunfermline have already taken decent numbers through but I think away fans should boycott to send a message. Wishing Danny and the boys all the best from afar this weekend. -
Duthie injured after getting assaulted last week I assume. Hope he’s not out long.
-
Nah, he’s not been binned, just odd that with a natural left back (Rodden) on the bench Danny chose to put Kennedy on there after Hendji came off. Fair play though, Kennedy had a good game there.

Some boy down the front was giving him pelters in the first half. Also heard his kicking being criticised. For some reason some of our fans just haven’t taken to him. All about opinions I suppose. -

100% this, some mental shouts at him today. His penalty save was a huge part of us winning today as if queens went 2-2 (completely undeservedly) then who knows what happens. He’s a proven goalkeeper at this level and miles better than our alternative. -
I’m assuming you can just rock up and pay at the gate for this?

The last 3 seasons have been better (football wise - obviously the covid spell was a bit shite from a fans pov) than most of the decade before where we struggled in the league below this one. As mentioned by another poster trips to falkirk, Dunfermline, airdrie, qots, etc are light years ahead of being stuck in the basement league and regularly getting done off Elgin, Berwick, etc Looking ahead at the shifting landscape of lower leagues in Scotland I think league one is as good as it’s going to get for us and actually staying at this level for any length of time will provide a serious challenge in the seasons to come. -

What exactly are you expecting? Newsflash - we aren’t going to win the league. There are several full time teams and better run part time teams. Realistically this season will be successful if we maintain our League 1 status. -

Naming themselves after a podcast and targeting armchair old firm fans, no thanks. An absolute abomination of a club. -

It’s small conciliation but Peterhead look in bad shape too at the moment. -

Why would the social club make an issue of it now? Has there been a falling out? I listened to your chairman’s waffling announcement a couple of weeks ago and remember something about a higher level of scrutiny (ha ha) now you’re in League 1.

No problem with players trying to secure a move to full time football, part of the game. As mentioned though we can’t afford to sit and wait so should be continuing our business as usual. If these players don’t manage to get a deal elsewhere then I have no problem with us taking them back, assuming Danny still wants them and hasn’t already signed a replacement. -

If we are waiting until bounce games to assess players then they are likely not good enough imo. We handed Paul Kennedy a 2 year deal after a good performance in a friendly last season FFS. There are plenty of guys who would walk into our team that have gone to teams further down the pyramid. Really worrying that more guys we don’t need a trial match to evaluate aren’t being signed up.
