  1. It isn't unfair - you don't like it that's a different thing. If you change to 3 x 14 and are in the bottom 14 then that's fair enough.

What if they decide to make a 16 team top tier and an 18 team championship and chuck all other teams into lowland or highland league.

This will be plucked out of thin air and based on this seasons league tables.

Cowdenbeath sadly wouldn’t make the cut but you will be delighted as technically you are now playing at tier 3 and a big fish in a small pond?
  2. Rivalry aside, noone can really argue that Partick Thistle should be down when they have a game in hand, for starters.

They are statistically the worst side in the division with the lowest points to games played ratio. The game in hand they keep bleating on about was away to ICT where they would most likely have got pumped.
  3. The Livi proposal seems reasonable but would keep playoffs as they are and bring the premier league playoff inline with that.

There’s no way that 2 relegation spots in league 2 would gain support. 1 automatic relegation spot so that the HL/LL playoff winner gains automatic promotion is more realistic (and should happen) although even then I’m sceptical it would be supported by league 2 clubs.

  4. If you were a manager who would u take out the two

If we had the decision of only keeping one of them I would choose Grant. He is a bigger influence on how we play as a team, getting hold of the ball at the base of midfield and making us tick. Generally if Grant plays well, the team plays well. He rarely wastes a pass and is very composed.

McStay is a good player too though and has the attributes to develop into a very good player. He is more prone to losing the ball, partly as he plays further up the park and tried to make things happen, but also partly through carelessness. As mentioned if he goes full time and is well coached he has cracking potential.
  5. Ol brown shoes Presley is bumping his gums in today's papers saying the SPL cant be more than 12 long term (as it needs 4 OF games for TV dough) and next term will need to see 3 teams being relegated, well if that's the case surely it would need to be like for like all the way down the divisions. Having already once had the experience of being relegated as part of 3 the season following being promoted as Champions I'm not mad keep to potentially be doing it al over again next season. Having said that, I'm fairly sure it will still be the out come at the end of the day.

To get this agreed I think a longer term 14 team top flight would need to be the plan, rather than just a single season. Otherwise it just blatantly to save hearts and any other ‘best for the game’ context is straight out the window.

As someone just mentioned there would be a split and still 4 old firm games so that argument is a non-starter.

The splitting of finances could be overcome by keeping payments due to clubs 13 and 14 smaller, more in line with current championship top 2, again a solution that’s been floated on here.

Relegation is a key factor too. If it’s 3 relegation places next season that’s going to send arses twitching all the way down the leagues, especially in league 2.

If there was a longer commitment to a 14 team league then teams like st mirren, Ross county etc would be more likely in favour as they would fancy staying in a 14 league but be shitting it if there was 3 relegation spots.

  6. It should be added that the Falkirk result was to a team from Liechtenstein. Of course our lazy media pointed out how bad that is.
Until of course you realise that they actually played in the top 10 of Swiss Super League and are regular entrants to Europe who have beaten some teams significantly bigger than ourselves....

    Nice try, but mostly inaccurate.

Vaduz are regular entrants to Europe because they win the Liechtenstein cup every season without fail. They do play in the Swiss league system but rarely in the top tier. They are mostly a second tier side and were when they played Falkirk.

Since beating Falkirk most of the teams they have beaten are from minnow nations like Gibraltar, San Marino, Wales, Estonia. There are no significantly bigger sides as you claim. [emoji23]
  7. Pretty elitist attitude, there. If QoS or Inverness or St Johnstone win the cup why the hell shouldn't they get European football as a result?  Its supposed to be an open competition, not only for the high and mighty. By your standards our crappy national side shouldn't even bother trying to qualify for Euro or World Cups.
Some other 'diddy' team results to support your theory -  a pretty mixed bag, for sure.
Rangers 1-7 Eintracht;  Rangers 1-4 Unirea Urziceni;  Rangers 0-2 Neiderkorn
Lincoln Imps 1-0 Celtic;  Artmedia 5-0 Celtic;  PSG 7-1 Celtic
Hibs 0-7 Malmo;  Aberdeen 1-5 Olomouc
And yes, QoS  lost1-2 and Falkirk lost 1-2 after extra time. But not really quite as diddy as the above shameful results. .

I’ve no real problem with the cup winner qualifying for Europe along with the top 3 league sides, but no cup runners up. If that’s a smaller side then so be it, they earned it by winning the cup rather than just reaching the final.
  8. Raith Rovers have already benefitted from the original decision, so League reconstruction would not be detrimental in any way to them, and would again benefit from Falkirks large support if they also went up with reconstruction.

Stranraer and Edinburgh would both be in the third tier should 14.10.10.10 come about, no surprise they are both keen on it !!

Be interesting to see what other clubs who get no benefit would vote, after all lets not kid ourselves, just about every club ,(including my own) will do so out of self interest.

In terms of sporting fairness the 14-10-10-10 is probably best. Promote 2 and relegate none doesn’t really punish anyone.

However by forcing through the current vote which is now the default if no further agreement is reached it’s become interesting.

You are basically asking League 1 clubs to vote for swapping Thistle & Falkirk for Stranraer & Edinburgh. From a purely financial point of view that’s a no brainer.

Maybe reconstruction won’t get the support it needs.
  9. League 1 for next season as it stands currently:
    Partick thistle
    Falkirk
    Airdrie
    East fife
    Montrose
    Dumbarton
    Clyde
    Forfar
    Peterhead
    Cove rangers

League 1 if 2 up none down model happens:
    Airdrie
    East fife
    Montrose
    Dumbarton
    Clyde
    Forfar
    Peterhead
    Stranraer
    Cove rangers
    Edinburgh

Even if we don’t get kicked into the bottom tier and they decide to promote 2 teams and scrap relegation we are going to be a lot worse off financially.

No disrespect but swapping thistle and Falkirk for Stranraer and Edinburgh would be awful in terms of away crowds.

  10. You've got teams playing each other twice, then splitting into groups of four and playing each other twice, to prevent sides playing clubs four times a season.
And a proposal that could see a team finish 4th, 10pts off the title, and miss out on Europe as the 9th placed team gets it.
You realise how ridiculous that sounds?

What’s the incentive for making the top 4? If the top three are all well clear your better chucking a few games to be 5th before the split as if your 4th there’s no European spot.

Plus there is plenty of evidence of horrific results (Kilmarnock this season) when we put forward our best 4 sides to Europe. It would be far worse if we reward weaker sides, that’s why we stopped cup runners up from qualifying.

  11. It’s very clear that Clyde supporters see this as their achievement of the century.
Well done in beating one of the worst Falkirk teams in living memory.
It must feel like winning the Champions League for you....

To be fair not many other teams in the league managed to beat you lot. Only 4 defeats and 3 of them against Clyde. Pleasing.
  12. Could it be that Dundee were angling for a 14 team premier league for more than a single season.

If it’s only for a single season then we are committed to that before the campaign starts so everyone would know where they stand around relegation places BUT what if it’s actually quite popular. Going for 2 seasons could mean a vote after the first season is complete on whether to revert back or keep a 14 team premier. If voting to revert back this could then be implemented over the second season.

From Dundee’s point of view that doesn’t get them up this season but it puts them in the driving seat next season with a potential 14 team league still in place making it easier to stay up.

  13. I can if it’s only for 1 season but it’ll be 11-1 no way Celtic and Rangers will agree on anything that awards or nullifies the title.

The reconstruction vote doesn’t have to be anything to do with that though.

Can’t see why rangers or Celtic would have an objection to a 14 team premier league.
