  1. Agree, but I hope Rice reminds him he's not Franz Beckenbauer. Stick to what you do best Morgyn and don't wander away from the centre of defence too much. Must admit I'm still a bit concerned about the defence, think we are leaving too much space too often. Of course the combination has changed nearly every game so the first choice unit (whatever that may be) hasn't had a lot of time to gel. Think we still need a good reader of the game with pace in there. Scott Taggart anyone? Overall I thought we took another step forward last night. Good to see Sammo get his first competitive goal this season. Thought he and Rodden did OK. Also delighted for young Buchanan. He's done well so far and deserves a run in the side.
  2. Hi m8, I've looked at Warrior's TV and they don't seem to be showing the match tonight, is that wrong, can we see it if we log in at this link? Also, is it £13? Ta in advance.
  3. I don't think that's deliberate though. If Brian Rice was able to bring in someone good enough to enhance our striker options I'm sure he would have. He said in a recent interview that four forwards had turned us down in favour of full-time offers. Those might have been for example O'Hara, McIver (who has started well at Falkirk), Henderson and Burrell say.
  4. I thought it was more a back three with Virtanen on the right of that, Cawley and Cammy O'D wide of the midfield four and a front three (although Coulson was dropping deep on the left at times). ETA Although sometimes it's difficult to tell.
  5. I actually thought we were the best I've seen so far this season yesterday. In particular Hetherington and Roberts both very strong in the middle of the park and a good balance. Stevie has been our best player so far and looks to me like he's even improved since he left two years ago. Neill has been next best IMO, but I think the defence generally would be better with Taggs as the middle of the three centre backs with Neill and Devine either side of him. I agree there are still things to be settled and as we all recognise, that's down to the front three; assuming Cawley and Deveny play wide in a midfield four. The likes of O’Donnell and Buchanan seem to be adequate cover, for those two and indeed we have cover for all of the "back eight" except goalie - the squad overall is stronger. So that leaves IMO Coulson, Scougs, LD, Sammon, Rodden and Rankine for the front three: Is there enough quality in there to be competitive? I think just about, assuming everyone (including LD) gets and keeps fit. Are there enough goals to challenge at the top of the league. Well that's certainly debatable.
  6. Not wanting to make them big-headed, but the two lads on commentary are very good also.
  7. I'm really pleased Ross has started well, getting the winner will help his confidence. Hope he continues to contribute and gets a few more.
  8. I'd like to see an estimate of his power output.
  9. Nearly three minutes ahead of WVA in a twenty-two mile time-trial? Dodgy IMO.
  10. Really good episode, Kevchenko. Plenty to discuss of course, but you made a lot of good points. Hearing from Stevie H was great, especially the detail from January of how he ended up at Arbroath and nearly came back to us then. I'm sure you've got plans to have more players on in future. Any prospects of having visuals as well in future?
  11. What to say about that to do it justice? To outplay the GOAT on centre court and deservedly beat him over five sets of unrelenting drama would be astonishing in itself, but to do so playing a level of tennis which at times looked unwordly, well.... Always sad to see a great champion coming towards the end of his career IMO, even if he isn't everyone's cup of tea (understatement alert), but knowing we are now going to be treated to, hopefully, many years of Alcaraz's brilliance more than makes up for that. Hopefully Novak sticks around for another couple of years and we see these two in a few more Slam finals. The king is dead, long live the king!
  12. I think young Carlos could go on to have a decent career.
  13. Yeah, would imagine at least one is a striker. Might depend on the actual quality of player he can get whether he brings in another defender or not. Was interesting Virtanen got put into a back three yesterday and I think he's played there in the past. Of the rest of the midfielders Robbo, Stevie H and Kev have all played full back previously (yes, I know) and I'm sure Rice wouldn't hesitate to use Roberts there. Personally I'd like to see two quality strikers come in. Of course getting the desired quality is very difficult - it's the thing most teams are looking for as they know it can make or break your season. Fingers crossed.
  14. Come on now, m8. Tell us what you really think.
  15. I thought we played well today. Enjoyed the game. Not sure how close that was to a first choice eleven for Celtic B, but it was certainly encouraging from an Alloa viewpoint. Deveney again looked good going forwards, by far Luke Rankine's best game, Rodden looked lively and was starting to get on the end of long balls forward. Otherwise defenders and midfield were all solid as expected. Good to see Scougs get on the scoresheet. He doesn't get the goals his talent deserves, but if pushed forward he really should be contributing a decent amount. It was interesting in the podcast that Stevie H said he doesn't set targets for himself, e.g. goals scored. As we know, we could be doing with more goals from midfield and I'd like to think Chipper is challenging the midfielders to achieve that, and I include even the "holding midfielders" in that.
  16. Mike standing down as chairman. https://www.alloaathletic.co.uk/2023/07/14/mike-mulraney-steps-down-as-chairman/ Probably felt the time was right given he has taken on the SFA Presidency, which is the reasoning he gives in the blurb. Wouldn't expect it will have much impact, if any, on what we fans see and I imagine if there are any major decisions then Mike will be fully consulted on those. Is he not still the major/only shareholder? Had a look at Andy Allan's LinkedIn profile and he certainly seems to be an individual with loads of commercial/financial experience.
  17. I think the ref just applied the laws of the game, which is as it should be. It may not have been malicious, but that's irrelevant, it was a clear example of serious foul play which could have badly injured Hetherington.
  18. Not according to the fans of the clubs he's played at, with the (oh what a surprise) exception of your odd mob.
  19. It will be interesting to see how that works out. One of the reasons I liked Roberts as much tonight was that he gave us something different. Virtanen and Stevie H (how good is it to have him back?) look similar types; sitting in, defensive minded, comfortable on the ball. Roberts looked more like he is all about energy, getting beyond the defence. That's something we lacked last year.
  20. Both of them? My heart sank when Kev was put to right back. He'd looked creative and sharp before that, linking up well with Scougs etc. What a waste!
