Four players in the PFA team of the season. Gallagher and Frizzell were obvious picks for what they bring and why they’d stand out to other players. I’m a bit surprised half of the defence is made up of our players, I suppose we did keep the most clean sheets outside of Dunfermline and were stronger defensively at the time voting presumably took place, so easy for some to miss some of the nonsense that’s been on display in certain games.

Whilst I like Cammy Ballantyne, I think he's lucky to be in it given his red cards and subsequent suspensions but good to see Fordyce in as he's been nowhere near as bad as some Airdrie fans have suggested. Frizz a long time injured and did take several games to get going afterwards but hopefully he's fresher than most for the play offs and no surprise fellow pros voted for him.

Gal was obviously a certainty but I'm sure Falkirk fans will be in meltdown at only having 2 players in.

Talk of Brody Paterson. Played 2 games I think for us so hard to judge. I have a feeling Hartley will offer him a deal but might want to remain FT / be closer to the central belt.

Paterson has another year on his Hartlepool contract remaining therefore there would be a great deal of negotiations to sort out in the first instance for a guy that's only shown some potential to date. Add in that he's had a long term injury, then he's a hard sell for Scottish League 1 clubs so he'll have to take a fair old hit in his pocket or he stays with Hartlepool in the conference.

Edit: on the subject of left backs, I’d imagine Brody Paterson (as one of Hartley’s failed Hartlepool signings) will be looking for a new club this summer.

Brody has had a nightmare, in and out the Hartlepool side, goes to Cove and gets a season ending injury after a couple of games. Still has another year to run at Hartlepool in the conference so I doubt he'll have many suitors.

Byrd's been decent when he's played I think. I didn't think he was as bad at Palmerston as was made out, certainly in the context of how the rest of the team played that day - the 2 full-backs were awful that day and even experiended guys like Frizz and McCabe were far worse. Fordyce and ATS will definitely start if fit, if ATS isn't then it's between Byrd and McCabe. I'm just not sure Byrd has played enough games to have McCabe's trust yet. But I've seen enough that if we are trying to see out a game and need a bit more height at the back he'd hold his own.

No chance Byrd will start play off games and agree he wasn't helped by others at Palmerston but he again lost his man (East) at the corner last week.

Having said that, I've not given up on him at all as he has ability and the required physical attributes necessary but needs to be more streetwise, aggressive and learn the art of defending. Not yet 21 and only played at a low level in Australia so definitely there's improvement to come.

Ok, so you are going to deliberately lose tomorrow if cove are in the play offs?
I personally think Cove will beat Morton and Hamilton will beat Arbroath leaving Arbroath in the play off.

I don't believe any Airdrie fan is bothered where we finish given our horrendous play off record.

If we met Cove, we have to accept that they will deploy their Dens Park tactic at our place, so any sort of win would force Hartley’s hand for the game at their place.

From my Airdrie perspective, Cove would be the preferred side to meet as they've had an injury crisis with Fyvie & Yule big misses for them. Definitely beatable for all the league 1 sides.

Most of the Twitter 'banter' or back and forth is very cringe, as is some of the opinions or praise about McCabe and the players. But they're only young boys showing a bit of passion towards their team so fair play to them. It was only 10 years ago I was the same age and praising the likes of Scott Morton and Graeme Owens on social media (as Facebook memories is loathe to remind me!) so I suppose we all do the same thing at that age. The U18s getting an ultras group going along to watch them is class btw.

I'm not optimistic at all about the upcoming play-offs but neither I am overly pessimistic. I've played every scenario for every potential game in my head and they all seem as likely the other. Could we romp through against Falkirk/Team 9th in the semi-final and do the same v Falkirk/Team 9/Alloa in the final? Absolutely. Could we get humped in the first leg v Falkirk or Cove/Arbroath/Accies and effectively be out of the running by this time next week? It wouldn't surprise me. All I know is, if we win an epic semi-final with a haddy striker scoring the winner or coming to the fore, I'm not even going to bother going to the final.

Yes, not decrying the guys as there seems to be an upturn in the young support which is a definite plus and a sign of good parenting!

Well we just beat them 4-1 for starters. Played them 5 times this season, 4 wins, 1 draw. Played Airdrie 4 times, 1 win, 2 draws, 1 loss. No-Brainer for me

I'd take dropping to 4th if it was Cove as I think there very beatable for any of the League 1 sides as they have been decimated with injuries.

Has to be ATS at the back for me, assuming he’s fit. He’s been our best defender this season IMO which I never thought I’d say when we signed him! Does anyone know how he’s doing? He didn’t look too clever last week even just walking from the tunnel to the dugout but hopefully the 2-3 weeks off before the play-offs is enough to get him back. He’d be a huge loss if he misses out.

Think a midfield of McMaster, Frizzell and Devenny is our best in terms of shape, balance and offering a bit of everything.

Rhys is definitely in our best 11 and has to play for me. Yes, not the quickest, but can play the killer pass, best passer and our best threat from set plays. A pressure penalty & great free kick in last years play off final, albeit it wasn't enough, but his experience and ability is vital in these games.

Didn't think McCabe had one of his better games today, an accusation which could be levelled at the majority of the starting 11. Stanway was quiet in the first half however with the half time change of McMaster for McCabe he seemed to have more forward drive in the second which suited him a lot more.

One thing that yesterday confirmed was how important Frizz is. He is the creative force in the midfield and we'll need him at his best if we are to progress. Our starting 11 for the 1st play off game could be interesting although 8 are certain starters.

It's McCabe or ATS partnering Fordyce at the back.

Frizz and perm 2 from McMaster, Stanway, Devenny, Telfer or McCabe if ATS plays at the back in midfield. I like Stanway although he wasn't great yesterday and always think Devenny has more to offer but it will depend on how Rhys see's it.

I actually, genuinely have 0 interest in this game, harsh as it sounds, but i honestly couldn't care if we finish 2nd 3rd or 4th.  my main concern is a fully fit squad, if it was me I'd be splitting the first 11 up and playing half on Saturday and then the other half the next game, the results of the next 2 Airdrie league games are of absolutely no interest to me.

Me neither. Anyone with the slightest niggle doesn't play and we rotate the rest using all the subs.

If I was a betting man I’d say home win given the jobs done and how blootered some of the players were up the toon on Saturday night. However, I genuinely think he’ll want to keep it to one defeat if we possibly can. Airdrie the only one I’m concerned about, I think we’ll beat Clyde next weekend on trophy day, I imagine they’ll have done enough to secure 9th place by then so they’ll maybe not be flying in the same way they will in their playoff game, just like Alloa the following week, I’m sure they’ll have one eye on their promotion playoff.

Would take a draw the now but similar to Weegie Par, if we lost I’m not overly bothered as the job is done.

Ach 1 night on the batter the week before a game won't bother them, there all fit young men.

Regardless, lets go for Austria v West Germany Spain 82 style draw (if you're too young, google it) which will secure our play off position as whilst it would be psychologically good to finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th it won't make much difference remembering Queens Park turned both of us over last year.

They do seem to be very reliant on Reilly. They’ve scored 41 goals this season and he’s been involved in almost 80% of them (21 goals, 11 assists) which is wild. They rarely seem to lose heavily, just a lot of narrow defeats then they go out and beat a team by three or four. As you say, being so reliant on one player doesn’t say much for the rest of the team.

Whilst I'm selective about stats, that is indeed very impressive.

I'm sure I'd heard/read Dundee were pretty keen on the boy Reilly, so I'm sure there will be a few in for him further up the pecking order than us.

Does seem strange that Reilly & Bevan are attracting attention given the Rovers league position but it I did see a few quotes about Reilly being the best player in the league. Bevan has only joined in January but going by the short highlights he does look to have a lot of ability and just 18.

I suppose the defining factors will be down to relegation and promotion of the teams involved. Dundee for instance might be looking for an upgrade on Reilly if they get to Premier League as it would be massive jump to go from the Rovers to SPL. Bevan will probably be offski if the Rovers drop to the Lowland league despite being contracted for next year as I'm sure someone would pay a nominal fee.

I conclude that the rest of their team must be mince.

A midfield pairing of Kyle Turner and Dylan Easton are what dreams are made of.

Todarov would be a pretty decent replacement for Salim. Not sure if he'll stay at Dunfermline as they'll be in the Championship next season. Noticed that he didn't even come on as a sub in the 5-0 game on Saturday. He must be on pretty decent money there so wages might be an issue. He's not the most prolific striker so maybe would put a few Championship teams off but he'd certainly give us different options up front.

He's Dunfermline's 2nd top goal scorer this season and best per actual minutes played. Having said that, he's an out and out centre forward and in my mind looks like he would be better in a 2 up top but definitely an aerial threat which we lack.

I'd assume Byrd will be on a contract beyond this season? Seems like a complete waste of time to bring him over from Australia, which can't be cheap relative to how good he is, otherwise considering he's probably played about 100 minutes of football all-in. Maybe the same with Dixon and Riley too? Although at least both would probably be cheap enough to bin if need be. Don't think any of them are good enough for League 1 let alone the Championship.

Byrd done the trial rounds at Leeds, Sunderland, Salford, Dunfermline & Accies before ending up at us so I doubt he cost us anything other than his present contract.
