Dixon not on bench was he not available, no doubt a friendly for next week give young lads a run.
He's unlikely to feature, described as one for the longer term!

Who has seen him actually play with the 18's and can provide a report?
I'm sure someone on the Bookface page had been at a game and reckoned he was nowhere near first team level and there were better players than him in that side.

Agreed. Getting out of League 1 by putting the best team possible on the park has to be the priority. Do your long-term planning once you’re in the Championship. It’s a better league for developing and selling young players anyway.
Agreed, very difficult to convince anyone to pay a substantial fee at our level.

Notice from the Facebook page (from a well known airdrie man) that we will be signing a some more players and that the club needs to "develop young sellable players". I get that but incredibly difficult to do at League 1 level, promotion would be the priority to me.

Lyness seemed like a lovely guy but just nowhere near good enough. A career second choice, summed up by picking Peter Schmeichel as the one player he’d want to play with when that would mean he wouldn’t play!
Still no mention of Jamieson, has it been confirmed anywhere what’s happening with him?
For what its worth "St Mirren loan watch" had McMaster as an unused sub and Jamieson injured last weekend.

I would be more concerned about more departures this month anyone heard any Callum Smith rumours
Oh dear, that would not be good news.

Whilst most of us are agreed about strengthening our defence. This article by our ex Manager is suggesting that may be difficult if not impossible.

I'm also an ATS truther. Admittedly I went in with low expectations but he's been absolutely fine in most games he's played and while it's a smaller sample size, hasn't made the same kind of calamitous mistakes that Watson, Fordyce, Ballantyne etc have. At the least he's had a better season than Fordyce anyway.
Telfer leaving would be a strange one and definitely a blow. He had a slow start but I've been quite impressed with him on the whole. He's not really been what I expected, he hasn't offered too much in terms of goals or creativity but he gets about the park more than I expected and has quietly became a solid player for us. I was talking to someone at the Edinburgh game who mentioned Lyness was only signed until January so I suppose if that's the case Telfer could be on a short-term deal too.
Seems there is a pile on on Fordyce this season but still our best central defender to me. I don't see these calamitous mistakes he's made at all.

I rate ATS. I certainly wouldn’t say he’s the big physically dominant centre half I’d like to see (despite his height) but he’s hardly out a foot wrong in his few run outs. Nothing spectacular, but a steady defender that I’d like to see start more often.
As for rumours of Telfer leaving, I’d be surprised if he got a move to the Championship. He’s grown on me a bit recently after I initially wasn’t very impressed, but I don’t think he’s good enough for that step up. Does that mean I think Airdrie wouldn’t miss him? Absolutely not. If Telfer left Frizzell and McCabe would be our only midfielders that aren’t teenagers. I’d hope he was staying until the end of the season but if not we’d need to get the type of quality replacement that might not be available mid-season.
It's probably more important Frizzell gets back to form and fitness as his last 2 performances have been terrible.

Possibly nothing but apparently a few fans have heard we’re interested. Can’t see us paying a fee unless there’s some sort of clause allowing him to go to a club in a higher league.
Can’t say I ever really rated him tbh.
Played as a trialist for us in July but never signed until September as it seemed nothing better materialised, so entirely possible it was only a short term contract.

The worry that I have regarding signing a centre back is that McCabe might get too obsessed with a ball-playing centre back since we like to play the ball out of defence. To me, the biggest issue is that too many crosses into our box are landing on the ground inside our 6 yard box. This should never happen, someone should be getting their head to the ball long before it lands. What we need is someone who can dominate in the air, and if all he does is hoof clearances up the park then so be it. Let the other 9 outfielders do the pretty stuff.
I think most agree on this but to me it's someone to play along side Fordyce. It seems that if he doesn't get his head to it then nobody does.

Morgyn neill is now staying at cove so I'm not sure who else we could actually get.
Maybe not now as his return to the Cove starting 11 didn't go particularly well!

Good post. I wish the board woulD communicate about the business plan. I did ask if a Director would come on the podcast, sent questions in advance and said they could hear it before it went out and request deletions. I was effectively told it’s a private company and we’ll run it as we see fit.
I struggle to understand how Edinburgh can sign players who would be excellent for us (Fontaine, McDonald) when they are posting attendances in the 2 and 3 hundreds at points.
It’s comparing apples and oranges. Teams like Kelty and Edinburgh don’t have the big stadium that we have and all the utility bills that go along with it. Although Stad co is separate, ultimately I guess our rent still has to cover a lot of the costs.
We can’t know the finances unless they tell us. I wish they would be a bit more open. It would be easier to accept signing the bin fluff brigade if we knew the financial limitations.
100% on the money.

Good to know if manager is the one actually signing players
Good point as McCabe always alluded pre season that he was looking for players who would improve the squad. Something changed?

Nothing wrong with signing these lads (we need the numbers) as long as we get in a couple of first team players as well (preferably a centre half and a defensive midfielder). I do think it’s easier to be 18 and inexperienced as a striker rather than a defender so hopefully Dixon and Bright can have better debuts than Riley.
Joe Dixon has just came from the 10th tier of English football where couldn't get a game! (He forgot to mention it in his interview)McCabe has already suggested that he is for the future and therefore is unlikely to be involved.
Jay Riley has already played a major parts in us dropping points.
Prince has never played a single pro game.
At least Ben Stanway has amassed 3 sub appearances!
Wotherspoon take 2!

I fully agree with most of the postings here, we need a better keeper (Rae will hopefully fill this role), we need a commanding centre back (no idea where we get one though) and we need someone making decisions on the bench.
The one thing that has been mentioned that I disagree with is a need for a left back. We have a development squad who are performing well, and we should be looking to bring in more youngsters to the team from that squad. The thing with youngsters is that you get some inconsistency in performance until they gain more experience. This has been the case with Deveney, he started very inconsistently, but has been improving as the season has gone on, we need to stick with him, and let him improve into a quality left back.
For similar reasons, I would have been happier keeping Henderson in goals rather than bringing in Lyness who has been poorer in the position in my opinion. However, the reason for this change may have been to protect Hendersons confidence as McCabe mentioned in the Clyde post match interview that the clean sheet would have helped Henderson's confidence after letting in 6 against Edinburgh. He let in 4 more against Montrose a couple of games later, and so his confidence may have been suffering.
I've been critical of Deveney and there's no doubt he has improved but he is 20 years old and has previous experience of professional football. On the other hand Jay Riley has just turned 18 and has no experience in the pro ranks and unfortunately that was abundantly clear therefore we need to be careful with youngsters.
I would still have hope for Alex Henderson as his big issue was with his feet. The legend that is Johnny Martin wouldn't get a game these days with goalies tippy tappying about the 6 yard box.
As for new additions, it depends on availability, affordability and if they improve the starting 11.

Read in the match preview that Ballantyne is injured but it doesn't say how long for. As someone 'in the don't know' (ITDK) does anyone know any rumours about any potential signings?
It didn't look good for Ballantyne as it seemed a quick decision to sub him. Watson back to RB on Saturday!

And also Scott Agnew back at East Fife as player coach which seems very strange given that he left EF to come to us to be nearer the central belt and since has had 2 jobs in Fife.
And no, he couldn't have done a job for us!

Having watched the highlights last night (I originally watched the game on DTV on Monday) it's impossible to tell if the first penalty was a foul or not because of the position of the camera. However for me, the Edinburgh player bought the second one by diving into Watson's leg. It took me 2over two days to watch the highlights because Monday was so painful and maybe we do need to add more cynicism to our game but I don't like to see it. I also hate when players cup their hands round their ears or put their fingers to their lips aimed at opposition fans - it is a clear "f**k you" gesture that should be yellow carded. And no, I still haven't got over losing that game from 2-0 up and cruising...
I did the same as you but was more enraged by Watson's naive defending.

Obviously, someone thinks we can make money off him and a loan is a possibility but perhaps that depends on further squad movements.
Seen mention of Smith and Frizzell attracting interest elsewhere, you just never know.
