I saw Rankin at games quite a lot last season. Initially in what appeared to be a Hearts capacity (presumably to watch Scott McGill) then at a few games later on in the season. I took that as nothing more than a local boy taking in a game but who knows. Literally a complete unknown when it comes to management but seems to be highly spoken of as a coach and professional. That doesn't always translate into success as a manager however. As I said previously, Stan is somebody I always fancied to be Airdrie manager when he was coaching down south but, after a couple of spells in charge at different clubs, I'm not sure how good a manager he actually is. Again spoken highly of as a coach and professional but that's very different from being a manager. His spell at Accies seemed 'fine' if a bit pedestrian. A different challenge admittedly but that's not what is required to get out of League 1.

Better off with Rankin than the others that have been mentioned unless we come up with name outwith the usual suspects. i think he is only 3 years younger than Ian Murray!

I've heard a few podcasts with John Rankin and he seems an infectious character who is a fitness and football obsessive. He would be the complete polar opposite to Mark Wilson who treated radio clyde as his full time employer and us as his part time hobby.

Ross has been played AM, LM and Striker for us but IMO he’s a better winger,

zanatta still has a year left but tbh if someone came in for him wouldn’t be opposed to letting him go,

but I would take Easton all day long would add more quality to what we already have

If the Forest Green rumours are true then Easton will be off there as I doubt you'll be able to get close to the salary they offer.

I cant believe people still don't rate Gal. There's 100 percent times where he should be dropped because he's went off the boil. But 16 goals speaks for itself so unless we are signing megginson or macalister then who else would get us that? Other than our very own Smith.

My assessment is made with winning the league in mind which has got to the main objective, so we do need to find better quality, from somewhere.

Also disagree with the flak Agnew gets. He's had a handful or poor games but he's never looked "past it". He gets some idiotic shouts aimed at him "that's got to go forward Agnew" when there's a frecking opposition player directly in front of him. People just want to be fuming at someone.

I sincerely hope he's played his last game and enjoys his retirement.

Agree with Airdrieman's assessment of who to keep / release and about the need for a Marvyn Wilson / Kenny Black type of player, would also add to that a big defender who can do a similar job breaking up play, was impressed with the big lad queens park had and somebody similar would ass to our team next season. The manager is a strange one, i'd be gutted if he left but at the same time if we dont go up this season would we be wanting him to leave at the end of the season, maybe depends how close we get? There will always be one or two teams in this leage who can spend big whether its Falkir / Dunfermline / QOTS coming down from the league above or a team with money coming up like Cove / Kelty QP so if we are going to get up we will need to find a way to finish above teams with bigger budgets eventually.

    Most of it, probably.

Currie - Thought he could have done better with Murray's goal at Firhill and Smith's at Airdrie theefore needs replaced.

Cantley, Lyons & Sal - How can anyone tell.

Agnew - My pet hate, completely immobile and shouldn't have been playing last season.

Gal & Gabby - Back up players only, we won't win the league with them as 1st choice.

I'm sure there was talk that we were interested in McLean last summer. I like him, I'm not sure how good he actually is but he's always a handful for our defence and certainly brings something different to our current strikers. I feel like he's been around for a while now but he only turns 24 next month. I don't think we'd be able to bring in a player as good as Megginson but Gallagher, Smith, Salim, McLean and a quick backup like Jordan Allan would be strong for this level.

Couldn't disagree more, Gal, Salim, Allan & McLean are all out and out penalty box strikers, only Smith would provide that something different. If fit, Salim can provide an aerial threat and i believe he is under contract for next season.

It's fair to say Montrose and Peterhead fans wouldn't be too impressed with Mclean's heading prowess despite his height and apparently has a billy big time attitude.

Simon Murray was excellent in the play-offs but he only scored five league goals this season and while he's a much better striker, Megginson only scored one more non-penalty goal than Calum Gallagher. Interestingly Megginson and McAllister scored 24 non-penalty league goals between them while Gallagher and Smith managed 27 for us. Obviously penalties count but our strikers don't get the chance to boost their numbers that way. Gallagher has his faults but he's a reliable League One goalscorer and unfortunately players like Murray and Megginson are just out of our budget.

Who knows if we'll keep them but Fordyce, a physical centre back and McCabe in midfield would be an excellent base to build from. We saw in the play-offs what a difference someone like Charlie Fox made at the back for Queen's Park.

Megginson and Murray are completely different strikers, these guy's are much more mobile, creative and simply more ability. Gal would be on my free transfer list as his overall play is not good enough, no pace, can't beat a man and has a terrible first touch. His goals say more about the service he received this season.

Like most, i agree we need more physicality but i've been bemoaning this for years.

Not always as easy as that though is it. There’s loads of factors at play and people improve and get better at what they do to. For me anyway he seems like a likeable younger guy who knows the league and what he’s doing and Airdrie seemed to play the best football in the league too from what I’ve read. I think Falkirk have done the best business, getting McGlynn in a proper good appointment and then after that it’s hard to judge.

Petrie or DC wouldn’t take it. Then there is the usual names and then guys like Murray and Thomson. I think Thomson will get Dundee or Raith.

Any half decent manager should have Dunfermline challenging

Ok, it was a tad devil's advocate and overall we definitely improved this year but the 3 previous seasons weren't great but as usual in Scottish football it's the same names all the time on the managerial merry go around.

If he does go i hope we think outside the box a little! (and yes i'm aware of the Martin Rennie experiment)

If we got to the Prem DC even said he had no intention of going Full Time. Also he’s got all his gang in at Arbroath and is an absolute legend here

Ian Murray would be the smart appointment I think

Why would Dunfermline want a manager that's failed to take a club out of league 1 for 4 season's in a row? I'm ambivalent as to whether he stays or goes at Airdrie.

I'm fairly confident that Murray will stay but also confident that Petrie will stay on at Montrose.

I think McPake might be worth a shout at Dunfermline.

With Easton, he's been brilliant for us, but he's the one player I can see moving on elsewhere.

Murray, Fordyce and McCabe sound like they want to stay based on their interviews, although McCabe I'm about 70/30 on if he will stay or not.

Adding physicality is a priority for the reason we can't keep having 10 men in the box defending corners as we didn't trust our defenders.

Why would Dunfermline want him when he's failed to take us out of League 1 for 4 seasons?

If he goes then he would probably double his wages and have the biggest budget in the league. Promotion would most likely mean he gets another year at least but failure would ultimately result in the tin tack.

If he stays at us and we fail to get promotion then most likely we won't give him another chance.

    Precarious business football management.

On the playing side agree totally that physicality is a priority but we need a better class of striker. We had no one near Megginson or Simon Murray who ultimately played massive roles in their clubs promotion.
