Forgot about that Gibson “announcement”. Strange considering that tweet was five days ago and we’ve still heard nothing from the club. Was Gibson one of the trialists at the weekend? Agree to an extent we shouldn’t rush signings for the sake of Saturday’s game but I don’t like the idea of not having subs available in case a player takes a knock, especially considering there’s another game the Tuesday so only a couple of days for a rest after.

I'm thinking that he and others maybe part of the new youth set up. I don't see why the club can't clarify this or perhaps it doesn't exist!

I have a feeling too, but I’m not wanting to tempt fate! Tonight makes sense since everyone including the part time players is in on a Tuesday night. The match preview interviews last season were always filmed on a Tuesday night as well so it’s maybe the most convenient night for our media channels as well.

I would say that we need four or five before Saturday’s match though. At the moment all we have is 11, plus Hutton and an injured Salim. We need a few just to have players on the bench.

I would expect some business this week but hope we don't just sign for the sake of a League cup game against Cowdenbeath. Benburb announced that Cole Gibson had signed a pro contract so perhaps him and maybe others could be part of the squad on Saturday.

While im by no means a handwringer the lack of info out of the club is quite annoying. Strips, season tickets info initially, signings, youth set ups. Just disjointed bits and bobs or radio silence.

Signings i get until they're official.

There does seem something in the offing for the rumoured youth set up though as the amount of 16-17 year old trialist's on show at the weekend would seem to suggest. ( Okosun, Jay Riley, Cole Gibson, Alex Henderson)

I don't see that we are miles behind.

Falkirk signed a few but its still the same mince players they had last year. Queens have signed some, but are they better than what we have ?

Obviously we've all got our opinions , but we do this every year. I argued with the exact same folk about last seasons squad,  and yes we fell at the last hurdle but was that not the best team we've had on the park for years? We strengthened 2 positions on last year , lost aggy who no one bar me rated and lost Dylan. Dylan js a huge miss but as they've said dozens of times they are trying to bring in a replacement,  but that's obviously a big ask. We had a loanee at left back 80 percent of the season and our bench was made up of non starters , no offense to them. So we are in the exact same boat as we were at this stage last , with the benefit of a the majority of the starting 11 have played together last year. When was the last time we could say that ? How is that not something to be positive about ?

We've 12 players, in that respect we are miles behind. Dunfermline, Queens & Falkirk are all around the 20 mark so we've still to sign another 8 or 9.

For starters, see Diamonds are Forever's post above regarding our current team. We are already very close to possibly our best starting 11 in a long long time. You almost seem to be focusing on the negatives or things still to be implemented. There's plenty time yet and the league Cup start is not a deadline to have a whole squad signed and ready to go. Giving players training facilities means heehaw except maybe that we are kind enough to help some people out. Means nothing if they don't sign them.

I am very confident that we will sign some more very good players, similar to how we've upgraded our RB and GK so far. May e its just how different people look at things but there's just zero reason for some of the panic and negativity in here this early in preseason. Over a month from the league even starting. I just don't get it.

Whilst i currently don't see the need to panic, and i'll reserve judgement until our squad is complete, Passionate does have a point as we are clearly miles  behind our main rivals in building our squad.

I'm still waiting on the 3 or 4 players (loans or full time) who are going to walk into our starting 11.

    Am I being sceptical here....

    No.

It was reported for the first 2 days that:

Quitongo was informed of the abuse 2nd hand by ?

The Police confirmed that racist abuse took place but since no charges were made then i suppose the alleged abuser couldn't be identified.

Airdrie/PH suggested to Quitongo that perhaps it didn't happen and wanted to release a joint statement. He seen that £ signs and said no! (i made that bit up)

Quitongo's mental health was affected confirmed by specialist.

Airdrie stated that 2 members of the public claimed Quitongo was involved in drug dealing. That's Rico not Jai, apparently.

Very messy to say the least!

Last season we had Easton, Agnew, McCabe, Frizzell, McInroy, McDonald, McGill, Ritchie and Devenny (and Rhys Caves if you want to be pedantic) all as options at centre mid in the squad at one point or another. So there will surely be scope to bring in at least a couple more midfielders. Of the right quality of course. No idea what truth there is in it but I've seen the Owen Moffat rumours starting again. Will presumably be signing the same day as the West Ham striker!

I'm not sure MacDonald, Ritchie, Devenny & Caves were ever serious options and quite frankly were squad blunders by Murray given their combined playing minutes . Devenny has promise but was never threatening the starting 11 last season but may do this season.

Anyway, 12 players to date signed therefore still at least 8 more to come including loanees. Rae  & Ballantyne of the new signings look like improving the side and most likely will be in our best 11 with Hutton & Devenny "squad" players.

So still plenty of scope yet but lets hope most of them can be capable of challenging for a start.

I'd disagree that most names have some substance.

There's literally folk just saying things like "I've always liked X player" and then 3 posts later you get.

"X player has signed for someone else, can't believe the club didn't sign him"

That then gets labelled as a player we've failed to get and folk get angry for no reason over it , when the club probably haven't went for them in the first place. I know it's silly season but as @airdrieman said , it's just lads posting on here or Facebook.

I love a good bit of speculation and rumour but for folk to then get huffy because we've not went for a player we were never in for is just bizarre.

What, are you disagreeing there's no substance to a black arm?

I remember McCabe said in the Advertiser that while he wants to replicate last season's style of football, he thought one of our biggest downfalls was not being able to adapt or change/mix things up if things weren't going our way. Our version of that was just chucking every forward player on, which admittedly had mixed success, and he wants to bring in players to address that. I would tend to agree with him. I don't think 'size' is necessarily the important thing (though it would definitely help at set pieces) but there were games where we needed to be more streetwise, take the sting out of a game/see it out better, pick up a booking or foul because it would have been the best thing to do etc. Cove, Montrose, Thistle and Queen's Park were all better at this than us and it ultimately showed when it mattered. You can be a good footballing side and a streetwise shithousing one and the best sides tend to combine those elements well.

Also our lack of options on the bench where it was obvious that Murray thought there was no point making substitutions.

This again takes me to "squad players" and their worth as there was no real point in Dean Ritchie, M MacDonald, Pyott (if he ever existed) Walker, Devenny & Cantley who were only ever used in emergencies only and didn't provide any competition to others.

More quality and a lighter squad for me and take the chance with injuries!

I know Fernandy Mendy doesn’t come with the greatest reputation but I remember watching him last season and not getting what the big deal was. He looked pretty good to me…

Looking at the photo though I recall him being bulkier than that. Maybe Mouhamed Niang? I’m sure I read he was free to leave Thistle.

Yeh but i think he's prone to the odd error or 6! I hope someone is mixed up and it's frankie Musonda.

Hopefully a fit Salim can provide this as he will provide an aerial threat.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong but i can only remember Josh Kerr scoring with a header from a corner last season.
