  1. I'm a fairly big sceptic when it comes to cycling, but no matter what you think that took some guts by Froome to go absolutely baws oot down the descent, caught everyone completely cold.
  2. Another win for Cav puts him clear in second on the all time list of stage winners. Only question now is when he will quit this year, there's another couple he could have a chance in next week so I wonder if he will at least go over the Pyrenees before throwing in the towel.
  3. Hopefully they get moved up a level soon then. Mitrea usually leaves me baffled any time I see him in charge, and there are far too many Irish and Welsh refs imo. Have to admit though that I was impressed by Ben Whitehouse anytime I saw him this season.
  4. My overriding thought whenever I see Mitrea is that if he can be on the international list, surely all the Scottish officials can't be worse than him?
  5. It's his own design, and I don't think he has actually had to use it yet. Certainly with the amount of hard, straight drives you see now protection for the umpires has to be a consideration. Apparently all the umpires were issued with a helmet to use at the World T20s but none of them wore it.
  6. Possibly the worst we have looked with the ball in hand for a while, scrum was reasonably solid but the lineout was poor. Couple of great steals on their lineout late on. Defence was excellent throughout, very well organised.
  7. I was given this picture at the weekend, and it's the best one I've ever seen of our ground at Hawthorn Park, which was our third home after Arrol and Atlas Parks. No date or note of the opposition on the pic but we were there between 1919 and 1935. The ground was situated on the south side of Hawthorn Street, bordered by Memel Street and Blackthorn Street, with houses on the site now. The tenement you can see is on the corner of Hawthorn Street and Horne Street, and the Carron scheme was built on top of the hill on the left. If you click on this link you will see the site now. http://showmystreet.com/#1x9u6v_-2iu70_i7d_10
  8. Sri Lanka will be kicking themselves, there should never have been 3 runs from that second last ball. Fair play to Plunkett though for whacking that last ball for 6 and a draw. Superb innings from Woakes.
  9. England having a 'mare as they chase Sri Lanka's total of 287. Currently 43-4 with Roy, Hales, Root and Bairstow all gone for 12 runs between them.
  10. Yep, doubt that you could have hand picked a better group than Scotland got last year coming out of pot 3. Getting Samoa from pot 2 was definitely a massive stroke of luck, and from pot 1 the only team that would have been a better option would have been France instead of SA.
  11. Ireland were 19-3 up at half time at Ellis Park, and led 26-10 after an hour. SA kept pounding away and eventually won 32-26.
  12. England went in 10-7 up at half time, got absolutely pummelled by the Aussies in the second half but defended brilliantly, then broke away and scored a try late on. Ended up winning 23-7. Joubert was popular.
  13. A win for the weather with the match drawn after only 12 overs play today.
  14. The weather has been England's enemy again with hardly any play so far. They did manage to take one wicket in the short spell of play that did take place, 9 more to go.
  15. Good declaration from England setting Sri Lanka 362 to win, just enough of a carrot that they might try and get it. They managed to survive the last 12 overs and were 32-0 at the close. Disappointing that Hales once again got out in the 90s, and a relatively quickfire 49no from Cook batting at 7.
  16. It does sound expensive, but you can watch over 14 hours play on the Thursday and Friday and all the world's best players are there. Compare that to 15-20 quid for a bog standard football match.
  17. Play not long underway at Lords with rain keeping them off until 2.40.
  18. Yes, the £75 is in addition to the general admission. If you bought them before the end of May they were 25%ish less. I'm going on the Tuesday practice day, cost £25. Much more informal and you are allowed to take pictures, which you aren't allowed to do on the competition days.
  19. Cook just has bruising, nothing broken. Was some whack he took from close range. He might bat tomorrow depending on how the match is going.
  20. England got pummelled early on but came back strongly and deserved the win, scored some excellent tries. Great win for Ireland in SA, especially having to play almost 60 minutes with 14 men after Stander was sent off. Looks a very harsh decision tbh from what I've seen of it
  21. Looking at the set list I think we got a far better one at Hampden.
