  1. Impressive finish again just as he did during the week in the Flèche-Wallone.
  2. The attack is far too predictable, 4 right arm fast medium bowlers and two part time spinners. If they hadn't ruined Finn then he might have given them something a little different.
  3. This stat popped up on my Twitter feed.... Fewest innings to reach 1000 Test runs for England: 12 H Sutcliffe 16 L Hutton 17 GS Ballance 18 WR Hammond
  4. I can't see the point of dragging players over there and then not using them, they are learning nothing new in these games. The Windies are nowhere near the best sides and aren't even at full strength, so surely this was the time to try some new blood?
  5. Lyth now has to start the next test surely?.They can't wait until the NZ series to blood someone new and Trott definitely isn't the answer. If he gets back to his best then he can be an asset lower down the order but at the moment Ballance, Bell and Root are all far better options than he is.
  6. It really is astounding how much difficulty England have finishing off the tail enders. They've been consistently awful it at the last couple of years.
  7. Warriors survived two second half yellow cards to get a 31-13 bonus point win, playoff place now confirmed, hope they can go on and get a home semi final now. Also a good result from Edinburgh's point of view.
  8. Warriors lead 19-6 at half time, scored 3 tries but haven't played very well at all have spent far more time in their own half than they did attacking.
  9. Good bonus point win for Edinburgh tonight to boost their chances of a top 6 finish. Ulster beat Leinster to all but finish off the latter's chances of making the play offs.
  10. England all out with a lead of 165. Bizarre last wicket run out as Jimmy Anderson didn't seem to even try and make his ground as he came back for a second run. Joe Root was fuming left high and dry on 182.
  11. England going well, good recovery after losing a couple of quick wickets. Root hits a 6th straight 50, he is averaging 97 in the last 12 months with the bat. Even more remarkably, he is averaging 26 runs per wicket bowling!
  12. Yep, both players were needing that to give them a bit of confidence. Been a very good day for England, that spell that Broad had was his best for a long time. Good chance for England to crack on now and get a decent lead. Weather permitting!
  13. Stubborn last wicket stand took the Windies to 299 all out at,the tea interval. England's openers need to do something they haven't done for a while and bat out the last session imo, best chance to win is to try and get a decent lead and then skittle the Windies in the last 3 or 4 sessions.
  14. Rain delayed start and they have only managed about 8 overs at lunch with the rain coming in again. Windies 210-5.
  15. Windies currently 121-4 just after tea, pitch looks utterly lifeless. The Jimmy Anderson special that was on 5live last night is available to download as a podcast, well worth a listen if you can spare an hour. Mark Chapman started a series of interviews with him 2 years ago and the agreement was they would only be aired if Jimmy broke Botham's record.
  16. Amazing start from him, looks like the weight of breaking the record has been lifted from his shoulders, terrific first 6 overs. 4 maidens and a wicket.
  17. Listening to him on 5live just now, he made a comment that he had changed his action and suffered a lot of injuries, he then changed it back to his natural action in his mid twenties and has been pretty much injury free since. He always come across as a very humble guy, and as Mark Chapman has said during it Jimmy actually starts blushing whenever you start talking about his individual achievements.
  18. Terrific finish by Kwiatowski today to win the Amstel Gold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HCjJqM-cTw#t=63
  19. Agree with the first part but not the second. They had more than enough time to bowl them out, that was the longest innings of the match, and it's very rare for the 4th innings of the game to hold that distinction. Yet again Cook wasn't aggressive enough when they had the Windies on the ropes with 5 down and plenty of time left.
  20. Well done to him. He's definitely past his best but still England's best bowler imo. He'll almost certainly go past 400 this year.
  21. Only difference now I would think is that the Windies will have now given up any thoughts of winning the game so might go into full defensive mode. Blackwood was excellent in the first innings so if he and Chanderpaul can hang around for a couple of hours then England might get frustrated.
  22. Exactly the start England wanted, got to fancy them to win from here.
  23. England lead by 328 at lunch. Getting close to decision time now, do they come out and go mental for an hour and try and get runs quickly, or do they keep going slow and steady and see where it gets them by tea? Surely they must give themselves 4 sessions to try and win the match?
  24. Good recovery again after being 52-3, daft run out for Bell. What can the ICC do to get over rates up? Even though there were 24 overs of spin in the day and they played an extra half hour, they were still 5 overs shy of the supposed 90 per day.
  25. Jimmy Anderson and Chris Jordan nudging England towards 400. Edit: Nearly but not quite, all out for 399. Pretty embarrassing considering they would have been looking for close to 500 as a minimum at the start of play today.
