  1. I might be a bit off on his exact wording but I remember part of Marshall's reasons for retiring was he didn't want to be the one standing in the way of the younger keepers getting their opportunity. If that's the case even if he was the best player on merit which is debatable anyway I can't see him agreeing to come back for these 2 games, especially when we've already qualified.

Brazil at the Emirates and Nigeria at Craven Cottage were great, easy to get to trips so I will go along wi this.

I think the difference now is the SFA can be fairly confident about getting a good crowd for near enough any game at Hampden rather than taking a fee for games like that which might make them less likely. Back around the time of Brazil at the Emirates we were getting under 20k for a friendly v Denmark which I can't see happening right now.

Whilst Stockholm is absolutely beautiful and I’d love to go back, I’d really hope it were at home if it’s Sweden, for the reason you stated earlier in the thread. Poland could be done fairly cheap though…

I'm hoping we're at home to anyone for now. If we are away then I hope cost and convenience are taken into account and we don't end up on the Syrian border again.

Maybe reading too much into it, but I'd say from that the friendlies will be selected based on those that didn't qualify for the Euros and aren't involved in a play-off so I think we will play someone pretty middle of the road in Europe. Sweden maybe or Romania/Albania if either don't manage to qualify. Something along those lines and then the second friendly maybe will depend on who gets knocked out of the play-offs.

Maybe a team outside of Europe, but we haven't really done that under Clarke yet, so I am not expecting anything like that.

The playoff semi final losers from each path play each other in the 2nd game in March so our opponents won't be a case of waiting on who gets knocked out. All the South American teams are set to be based in Europe in March for friendlies so that's a possibility.

Sweden would be ideal, underperforming potentially overranked team who will have a new manager wanting to try things out. Same maybe with Poland if they lose out albeit we've played them fairly recently.

Asked this elsewhere on the Euro 2024 travel thread but might be more appropriate here.

Quite a high chance of staying in Berlin for the Euros for two weeks, was going to see if the missus and kids (will be 4yr and 1yr old) wanted to come out for one of the weeks. I guess I want to know is this a stupid idea? Is there enough to do for kids (I see there is a zoo and aquarium, also picked Prenzlauer Berg area) too young to understand the historical stuff? Is there a glaringly obvious other choice for families in Germany I should look at instead?

@German Jag @Stellaboz sorry thought I'd tag some German based forum users as I didn't think the chances of this being read was very high!

This is just a stream of concsiousness off the top of my head so might make little sense but there's a load of beaches on some of the lakes in and around Berlin (such as at Muggelsee) or outdoor pools like Sommerbad Neukoln or Kreuzberg which have child friendly areas, pools and some slides. On a similar theme but bigger Tropical Island which is an indoor waterpark in an old aeroplane hangar outside Berlin is a short train ride away, you can go for the day or book a room and go for 2 days https://www.tropical-islands.de/en

Tiergarten is absolutely massive and has a load of playgrounds and I'm sure it will be the same for the parks near where you're staying plus there's a Nature park in an old converted railway yard with some old trains and the tracks all left there (https://www.visitberlin.de/en/natur-park-schoneberger-sudgelande). They might also enjoy one of the boat cruises down the Spree, most of them provide shade or umbrellas if it's blazing sunshine too.

The fanzone when I was there for the 2018 World Cup had a ferris wheel, a few other rides, your standard funfair type food and some horrendous German europop on the big stage, it's also free so easy to come and go as you please. Imagine there might be more to it this year with them hosting.

DDR Museum is free for kids under 6 and has a ton of interactive stuff about what it was like for kids in East Berlin so could be worth a try and you've only paid for your own tickets if the 4 year old hates it. There's a Legoland centre in Berlin but no idea if it's any good and there's also a Natural History museum. There's also an interactive kids museum but it says from ages 3 and up, might be alright for the eldest https://www.visitberlin.de/en/labyrinth-childrens-museum-berlin

There's a load of other places easily accessible on the trains. Big cities like Hamburg, Dresden and Leipzig within a couple of hours, regional trains of an hour to nature reserves like Spreewald or if you really wanted within a couple of hours of the baltic sea and the seaside resorts or even some of the Polish cities just over the border.

As German Jag mentioned Visit Berlin is a decent guide and also breaks it down to different age ranges which might helpt https://www.visitberlin.de/en/attractions-children

If you're wanting to go for the Euros with young children I don't think you're going to get much better than Berlin unless you find some kind of resort somewhere for families which I'm afraid I'm not much help with. Hope some of that helps.

It‘s a fairly concerted effort, they‘re putting in to stuff the harvesters prior to next years finals. 100% pick-up in Lille & now Tbilisi, plus the number at the pick-up point in Seville was much higher than you‘d normally see.

I don't really mind picking up to be honest, it's just paying for the pleasure.

It’s a shame the original thread was taken over by actual football chat 🙁

This, the original thread was perfectly fine and already started off as the thread to discuss travel.

Are we going to have a ticket thread too? Can't possibly have people skipping over a post that has no interest to them.

Valid concerns, as perhaps would be a loss of physicality in midfield. With us already qualified, however, the upcoming matches next month and/or other games we will play pre-tournament would be an opportune time to develop a 'plan B'.

McTominay's goal for Man United tonight was everything you would want from a number nine. Let's not forget it's not an alien position for him: he often played as a striker in his youth.

Ideally, someone will have a storming second half of the season and play themselves right into contention (I'm looking at you, Ross Stewart).

McTominay said just the other week that isn't true.

    Quote

People always said: ‘You played as a striker as a kid.' I never played as a striker.

“I played two games there with [former Reserves coach] Warren Joyce because we had no striker. So, whenever I score a goal, people always say: ‘He used to be a striker, that’s why.’

“I never used to be a striker! I’ve always been a midfield player, a number eight, so it is funny when you hear stuff like that.”

  8. Two home games in March would be lovely if the SFA can sort that. Been an expensive few months following Scotland and Germany will add to it.

With the World Cup qualifying draw next year I'd also hope we are being sensible with who we pick since we have an outside chance at pot 1. Any over ranked and underperforming teams please.

Portugal must be a serious threat next summer.

They are 5-0 up at half time in Bosnia as they continue to win every game in their group.

Their front 4 tonight is Ronaldo, Leao, Felix and Fernandes which means that Bernardo Silva and Jota are on the bench alongside numerous other very good players. Their squad is nothing short of ridiculous.

I went to Porto in between Seville and Lille and watched their game v Slovakia in a bar with a bunch of Portuguese guys who surprisingly were really downbeat and thought their team wasn't good enough to challenge England and France next year and they benefited from an easy group. They really aren't sold on Martinez either.
