The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread
FTOF replied to djchapsticks's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
To be fair, I think the club and the player hope that, after next season, he will have developed enough to be one of our top two 'keepers. When he was signed there were words to the effect that he was a long term project and had been researched as such by the goalkeeping "team". I can see him being put out on loan, with the hope that he's first choice to whichever club he goes to. He needs to be tested every week preferably at a lower end championship club or top end 1st division club. Only that way can we see if he's suitable to make the step up to compete for the first team position. -

Obika fits the bill then. He tends to do that very well. Just didn't score enough. I would be gutted if he signed for another team in the league. -

Would be nice if the extra £100K we got for finishing above 'Well financed any possible move. However, I reckon he's a stick on to stay with them. -

Once they sack Neilson it will be. Hopefully, they take a long time to bin him. -

Indeed. I must have been about 12 years old then and it was the first time I'd ever seen anything like that. They invaded the pitch and started winding up Saints fans, as well as kicking the shit out of each other. Think the game was stopped for 10-15 minutes or so. It would seem that the tradition of being bigot scum really is a big thing for Ra Berrrrs. -

Probably one of the few times this season that your manager underestimated the opposition. Pity we bottled it when it really mattered. -

Don't miss any out. Here's one for them. -
The Last "all Scottish" cup final and IIRC the last with square goal posts.

He's under contract for another year, according to posts on the Accies thread. I think we should steer well clear of any of their players. -

Well today was a step forward in this respect. A great strike for his 16th goal of the season. -

To be fair, Ross County played a weakened team when they played us and still got hosed.* *Oops! Just noticed Coventry Saint's post pointing out the same thing. -

Aye. You're not wrong there. Was pissed off at something else when I read your post. Must have projected that onto my post. It won't happen again. £2 - £3 million is ridiculous, but that's not what my post was about. -

McGrath offers so much more to a team than goals, so I'm unsure as to why people seem to be concentrating on the number of goals he's scored. Also, a players assists rely on strikers actually being able to score from the passes made to them. Our forwards haven't exactly been prolific this season. When you actually have seen every minute that McGrath has played this season, you can see how good a player he is. However, he's not the finished article. He needs to improve his shooting for a start. He's a very brave player and doesn't hide, and he's got bags of energy. His delivery from set pieces has been consistently good too. He also gets booted about the place by opposition carthorses and he just gets up and gets on with it. If he were to go, it would probably be for a fee around £500K, with a decent sell on. It might rise if there's some competition for his signature. -

IIRC JG stated when Finlayson joined us, that the main aim was to get Finlayson "into the fold", in preparation for his permanent move in the summer. -
No need, with the number of donkeys that play in defence for the teams below us.
-
A very strong and intelligent performance. Set up three chances, two of which led to goals. Good to see the penalty king back to his usual.
-
Mason is defensive option on the left side. He hasn't been great, but he's still an option. The only other players are Lyness, Finlayson and Henderson. We can't even put two GK's on the bench as Urminsky is on loan at Ayr. Although Langfield might be up for it.

Looks like a fairly reduced squad for Wednesday. Reid, Erhahon, JDH, Fraser and Obika missing out. Possibly Quaner or Brophy available for selection. Dylan Reid: St Mirren midfielder misses games because of exams - BBC Sport
