  1. I can't remember where I saw it - it may have been the SSN ticker - but I've a feeling 27th July was mentioned for the English window opening. It'd make sense as the EPL season finishes 26th and Championship 22nd July.
  2. Aye he's a leftie. He's a N.I U21 international and seemed to be chipping in for the reserves before the shutdown. It's going to be a pretty tough gig for him being the manager's son though. It'd be a laugh if he turned out to be good like.
  3. 1-0 win against Utd in the bounce game earlier. Cornelius playing right back and Donnelly at centre half 1st half it seems. Motherwell first half: Fox, Cornelius, Donnelly, Hussain, McGinley, O’Hara, Turnbull, Semple, Hastie, Seedorf, Watt. Motherwell second half: Carson, Grimshaw, Maguire, Lamie, Johnston, Campbell, Polworth, MacIver, Hylton, Robinson, White. Dundee United first half: Deniz, Robson, Connolly, Graham, Freeman, Powers, Harkes, Chalmers, Pawlett, Fotheringham, Smith. Dundee United second half: Deniz, L Smith, Neilson, Sporle, Reynolds, Davidson, King, Mochrie, Clark, Glass, Appere.
  4. ^^^ Pretty much this. He kind of threw shade at Robinson/Motherwell when he signed for Killie and IMO it probably said a lot about why he never got the chance he seemed to think he deserved. He spent years as a stand out for our 20s but bar rinsing Jim Goodwin that one time he made zero impression in the first team while his peers like Cadden, Campbell, Turnbull and Hastie - who bought into the idea of needing to "do the free stuff" - all became first team regulars. "Sizable sell-on" for us though...
  5. Heneghan's already left Sheffield United - he's a free agent.
  6. "mutual compensation" "sizable sell-on clause" Cheers Hibernian Football Club club.
  7. Fwiw: I'm still bang up for us signing Lang. I agree with you that he'd be a wide option rather than a #9. It's just some shift from Robinson talking about running with a squad of 15-16 first team players to ending up with - at last count - 21. Obviously there are trade offs: Fox will presumably be on less than Gillespie, Dunne's signed a short term deal that presumably reflects his situation, Lamie and McGinley are probably covered by Tait and Hartley leaving and I'd guess all the extensions that have been signed reflect our revised budget. Still though... I wouldn't necessarily read much into the fee as an indication of anything. To me that seems far more of an opportunity cost. Our original contact seemed to be about a loan, Wigan's administration presumably put an unexpected option to buy on the table. Again, assuming all the press chat about our interest in him is accurate and the fact you've had Scott Burns running with it from our side and Nixon talking about it from a EFL side suggests there's something in it. This is where we seem to be just now (I've shoved MacIver wide right for balance):
  8. I'd be surprised if that was the case - we seem to have made our first contact with Wigan on 17th June about a loan, Wigan went into administration 1st July and the story about us looking at a permanent deal on the 6th. So the interest has been there for a month - give or take. Given we've been back at pre-season since 15th June I don't imagine we knew he'd be signing and let Long go full Scott McDonald to just sack off pre-season. Although having said that, it's clear from Burrows' Twitter updates to fans that the negotiations with Long have been ongoing I'd like to think that we'd have factored that deal being on the table while we've been speaking to Wigan. Having said all that, we've presumably known for a couple of days since we've clearly booked ad space for the billboard graphic and delivered the creative.
  9. If we're including caretakers then: Kenny Black: Player (1983-84) Caretaker (2014) Stephen Craigan: Player (1995-2000, 2003-2012) Caretaker (2015)
  10. Motherwell: George Stevenson: Player (1923-39) Manager (1946-55) Ian St John: Player (1956-61) Manager (1973-74) Bobby Watson: Player (1969-76) Manager (1983-84) Alex McLeish (player manager): Player (1994-95) Manager (1994-98) Billy Davies: Player (1993-98) Manager (1998-2001)
  11. I agree with this. I mean I don't dislike Long but Lang looked like a totally different sort of forward to what we're used to.
  12. Oh I totally got the reference but aye, it doesn't necessarily mean he's re-signing. It's a nice graphic though. Aye, that said he was saying the kid Jensen deal would be done yesterday/Tuesday as well so he's 0 for 2 as it stands.
  13. I mean I know were very much 'brand' aware but is it not possible that it's just an old creative?
  14. I mean, you'd think so. Especially if we're chucking a decent fee at making Lang happen. Going by Long's IG he's still on Merseyside (and there's no lockdown haircut @Swello) but either way it'd be difficult to see how we could justify it unless either Hylton or Seedorf were on the way out. If Lang signs that'd be Lang / Watt / Hastie as 1st pick front 3 plus White, Hylton, Seedorf, MacIver and Robinson. That's 8 players for 3 positions - I know MacIver and Robinson are part of the Reserves group but still...
  15. In other news Nixon's been updating on the Lang situ. The fee is less than £500k (not a surprise)... But it's a relatively decent amount.
  16. It's not his favoured position but it wasn't quite out of necessity either - he ended up playing 2 full seasons at either LWB or LB so it wasn't just a case of filling in because of injury/suspension. He ended up playing on the left after Stevie Hammell retired mid-season and it turned out that him playing there gave us better balance and he was a better option for the position than someone like Stephen Hendrie or Aaron Taylor-Sinclair. We didn't really miss out at RWB/RB as Chris Cadden and Liam Grimshaw were options there. So we just stuck with it until last season when we brought in Jake Carroll. Unfortunately for Tait by that point Grimshaw had made the RB spot his own so he ended up mostly being used as cover for RB/LB.
  17. Interesting footnote to that article. Tbh, I'd have thought if anyone would have been of interest to O'Neill at Stoke it'd have been Campbell.
