These Thistle wingers against our full backs is giving me the fear

Only signed him since the first week back after lockdown on loan from Celtic. Didn’t have particularly high hopes given our record of signing youngsters, but it’s definitely worked out so far.

We have no pace on or off the ball with this midfield, it’s difficult to watch.

I sure as hell hope it’s the former. Howie in midfield is a bit stodgy, would’ve preferred McGlinchey and just punt Rumsby to the bench. Jamieson could be a good option in the last half hour. We’re due a bit of Goodwillie magic, so hopefully it’s tonight.

Tom Lang coming on up front is... interesting

Injured. Lennon said he’s hopeful of maybe playing on Saturday but I wouldn’t bother personally, especially with two games coming up next week, including one against Forfar.

Wouldn’t have been my pick of a game to drop Goodwillie for, that’s for sure. Howie’s omission and Nicoll starting a third game in a row are other interesting selections. Can’t say I’m at all confident having seen that selection.

The rotation has already been in evidence and we’ll see it again tonight obviously. The questions for me are how much he can get out of Otoo at LB in terms of games and also when he chooses to rest Goodwillie. Think the chat has been around maybe giving him the Ayr game off but not sure if Lennon would treat a Cup game like that, think he might not start at EF on Thursday night. I imagine we’re not getting Nicoll tonight just with him playing a full 90 in our last two games so the likes of Lamont, Love and Cunningham might be getting brought in even though we played OK at Montrose. As said above, this is a big game because with Forfar and particularly Dumbarton’s fixtures in the coming games, we need to try and get some points on the board and hopefully put ourselves in the driving seat for 8th.

Just from the highlights, looked a little bit better in terms of performance. An idiotic challenge from Nicoll for the pen, but not sure there's a huge amount wrong for the second. Was ready to criticise us for conceding another goal from distance and a set piece - two of our biggest bugbears this season - but it's just a cracking strike from Webster and we were out pretty quickly. Otoo will have hopefully picked up a lot yesterday, I reckon Webster is one of the toughest wingers in the league so it was always going to be a challenge, but I still reckon he's a better option than McNiff out there. Bain could hopefully fill in when he needs a rest because we now seem to have Munro and Cuddihy (appreciate neither are ideal) for RB. I also realised from the highlights that I had completed mixed up Thomson and McGlinchey throughout last week's game. The wonders of Pixellot.

Nicoll gives away a pen, typical

Nicoll in there has a ‘sent off at 25 mins and 3-0 down at HT’ feel to it. It feels quite a defensive line up, which is possibly understandable given our record up there.

He’s a right back I think. The left back situation is a real worry - McNiff is too exposed in this league against pacey wingers and we don’t have a clear alternative. I’ll get hammered for this, but could we play Ally Love there? He’s at least left-sided and has a bit of pace. It’s far, far from ideal but he’s diligent enough to maybe do a role? Or we could just, you know, sign a left back?

More teenagers and Martin McNiff trotting out at left back. Pain.

An “imminent” return for training now being reported

Bieniemy has apparently told the Texans he isn’t interested in the position and Eberflus from the Colts has turned them down, so this coaching search is going well The new GM said to local media yesterday that Watson will be involved in the coaching search but the horse might have bolted on that one already tbh. Seen the Carolina OC Brady heavily linked, thought they would go for Daboll from the Bills given his NE background and the fact he shares the same agent as the GM and Littlefingers Easterby, but there’s been no chat about him yet. Wouldn’t mind that hire at all if it does happen, Brady would scare me a lot given how young he is. If it’s Mayo or McDaniels, then I reckon Watson and Watt will request trades and then it’s worst team in the league territory.

Not technically a loan, but the mere mention Celtic and Scotland youth player Jack Breslin makes me shudder. I do agree that we have had a poor record in getting good loan players through the door compared to other clubs in the same divisions as us. Montrose are a good example, they always seem to have two or three loanees that make a real difference to their team.

Another Rangers kid in - midfielder Jack Thomson - on loan. He’s described as ‘combative’ on the Rangers website so there’s that. Amazing how we have these links to Celtic with Diamond and then sign half of Rangers’ youth team. Not convinced another young player is what we need but not sure what other options we have.

Wish I could look forward to a Clyde game these days but this is going to be another chore of an afternoon. We’re going to lose and probably by a comfortable amount if Megginson plays. 3-1 Cove.
