Having read all these pages and being disappointed at no new signing. I would summarise the thread as follows, there seem to be two camps: I'm just about in the its still early camp. I do have a really bad feeling about this season though.

Tbf, you were much improved. The first 15 moves were all very good. I wasn't convinced by h3 and letting me take the pawn but the engine analysis says that is fine. Bg5 was the error. Ng5 is better, as if Bxf1 (winning the exchange). You simply play Bf5+ (this means you win the Bishop on f1) and then after a king move you play Nxf7 winning a rook as you fork them on h8 and d8. Good game, you are definitely improving. Keep at it.

The reality is that most folks will be sceptical given his reputation until we say him play. I'm actually hoping he might be an upgrade on Baird (who is one of the worst defenders we have had at this level - that is not hyperbole). Also with Duffy on board and his ability to coach defenders, there may actually be cause for optimism wrt. our defence. Who knows? Let's get the signing news announced because there's only so much we can talk about with the current players signed up.

There's a distinct difference between sceptism and writing someone off. It suits your narrative to assume the latter though.

Aye, is it not 2 out of 6 if you count the goalie? So it's 1/3rd of the 3rd best defence last season. Not sure that sounds as good tbf.

This, I don't mind signing players from a team finishing below us if it's their best players. I'm no sure we poached Morton's best players other than Fjørtoft (maybe?).

I'm not sure he was underrated. He had an awful knack for getting under high balls and letting them bounce rather than clear them.

I think I'd be more perturbed by him specifically saying that he wouldn't play for another team at this level (ie. against us). Dunno why I'm bothered though as I used to gripe about him all the time... before I saw the knick of Baird, right enough. He's also free to do what he wants. I wish him well, you sometimes don't know what you had until its gone and that's definitely my view on Bell.

Aye, I thought I was marginally better but couldn't find much. My plan was to win your IQP and then go into an ending a pawn up. It never really transpired as I'd hoped though. Apparently I made a mistake in playing h3 and should have taken the a6 pawn with my Queen. I'm not sure any human would play that. King safety felt a bit more important to me than pawn pinching. Good game mate. Hope work is easing off!

That thought has crossed my mind as well. I stay about 60 miles from Ayr and if its back to 'stay local' I'll have to watch a stream. That being said, call me naive or optimistic but vacinnes are working. As long as hospitalisations don't start increasing dramatically, we should be okay.
