  1. Not sure how many would be worth considering , in all honesty. Probably only three or four I think are genuine Championship level. Of those, Josh Todd looks capable, and was unlucky with injuries - some thought he might have been worth another look next season, but it looks like we're being pretty ruthless. He plays as one of the three behind the front man. Stelios is Stelios; flawed but ok for the Championship. Not sure if he'd go to you, I think he's the sort of player who needs to feel the love. That's not a dig at Morton. The other viable option is John Sutton who is already being linked with you. He'd do a job, no question, even if he was first choice off the bench. I think he'd have been better than any of your out-and-out strikers this season. The fourth - bit of a youth prospect - would be Nathan Flanagan, who we recalled from his loan at Christmas (presumably in case Morgan didn't come back to us on loan) but hasn't really featured much at this level.
  2. Good stuff. Didn't think there was any doubt, in fairness. #Unfinishedbusiness
  3. Just saw this time last year there were rumours linking him with some big clubs, and also Sevco - how come that's not panned out? Is he just a bit slow/immobile for the very highest level? https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/celtic-rangers-track-morton-defender-10235688
  4. I think he'd have been strolling to a top flight contract with somebody, if he'd stayed fit. As it is, I think Jai owes Morton a good, full season. He should sign a two-year deal there. He'll still be able to move next summer if he wants (and if he's played enough) but at least Morton will get a fee. Can't imagine a top flight club taking a punt on him at the moment given his injury record.
  5. Bear in mind Celtic might be happy to let him come to us as they'd be strengthening a team in the same league but in no way a real rival. Also, he wouldn't be able to play against them. It's in Celtic's general interests for us to pick up as many points as possible in games not involving Celtic. On a similar note, they should probably lend us Dembele.
  6. I feel inclined to point this out every time we have a transfer window, but I have never, ever known St Mirren to be so decisive in terms of transfers, both players in and out. Does this leave us with a) anybody on a contract that we don't think has got what it takes or b) anybody out of contract that we still want to sign up? Reilly, presumably? It's utterly refreshing. It's fair on the players, too - they know where they stand and can set about lining something else up. Of the OOC first team guys, you can imagine Stelios, Sutton, Irvine and Todd getting a gig in the Championship. The rest might have to drop to league 1, aside from Donati who I assume was just a back up in case the absolute worst happened and our captain got injured. (PS did I see on Twitter that Scott Walker was back at the club in a first team coaching capacity? I can't find it now and am worried I might have dreamed it.)
  7. Hello gents. Thought it'd be a good time for a quick 'mind the gap' update now the numbers are all settled. I have to be honest, I had no idea The Gap was such a big deal until our Greenock friends started banging on about it in the 2015-16 season. If we'd known it was so important to you guys, we'd have kept you updated for the many seasons prior to that one. Not to worry, I'm sure we can make up for lost time next season and beyond. Anyway, on with the stats. Head to head: Over three seasons, 12 games, Saints won four, Morton won two, and there were six draws. Saints scored 18, Morton scored 16. Pretty fucking close, in fairness. Jim Duffy makes you hard to beat: I reckon you should hang on to him. The biggest wins both came at Cappielow: 1-4, 11/04, and 4-1 12/08. Now for the important stuff. 2015-16 saw Morton secure a 'glorious' single-point margin over St Mirren. +1 Morton In 2016-17 Morton reached their peak as a football club in securing a playoff place, and finished an impressive 13 points ahead of St Mirren. +13 Morton, +14 in total. In 2017-18, St Mirren sauntered to a fairly casual league victory, and a 24 point gap. +24 St Mirren, +10 St Mirren in total. Mind the Gap, and thanks for playing, Champs. (Rules for next season: I think the fairest way to calculate The Gap would be to take the gap from Morton to the leaders of the Championship, and add it to however many points we have in the top flight. I know you'll be keen on hearing updates, 2015-16 style, so we'll be sure to pop in from time to time. If I ever get really bored at work, I might backdate the calculations for a more comprehensive historical picture. Because I know how important it is to you all.)
  8. Yeah. This award might not have helped, either. The relationship he has with the BoD means at least (you'd imagine) they'll be kept informed of his intentions. Scott has a 100% record for appointing amazing managers, so I'm relaxed about it.
  9. I was once told your trajectory was very clearly both discernible and upward.
  10. With the right guy on board, Morton could really push on and finish as high as 6th next season, I reckon.
  11. Snatching 7th from the jaws of 3rd is some fucking effort. Nobody does late season bottle crashes like Morton do late season bottle crashes.
  12. Decent signing if true. Certainly couldn't see them going down if that's the case.
  13. Naw, it's very quiet at the moment. Might start to hear stuff after the season ends, I guess.
  14. The first few pages of this thread are magnificent reading and I'd recommend it to anyone. Then come back here and take a look at the final league table for that season:
  15. Yep. Except the Arabs' season was the equivalent of being picked to tour as one of Kylie's dancers and getting shagged by the Ryder Cup team.
  16. This forum's boring when people aren't ripping us for being shite, or when our superiority has become old news. Even Morton are back where they belong, terminal mediocrity, and are fighting amongst themselves again. I'm so bored I'm tempted to dig up some of the belting posts from the 4-1 defeat at Cappielow thread.
