I think he'd have been strolling to a top flight contract with somebody, if he'd stayed fit. As it is, I think Jai owes Morton a good, full season. He should sign a two-year deal there. He'll still be able to move next summer if he wants (and if he's played enough) but at least Morton will get a fee. Can't imagine a top flight club taking a punt on him at the moment given his injury record.

Bear in mind Celtic might be happy to let him come to us as they'd be strengthening a team in the same league but in no way a real rival. Also, he wouldn't be able to play against them. It's in Celtic's general interests for us to pick up as many points as possible in games not involving Celtic. On a similar note, they should probably lend us Dembele.

I feel inclined to point this out every time we have a transfer window, but I have never, ever known St Mirren to be so decisive in terms of transfers, both players in and out. Does this leave us with a) anybody on a contract that we don't think has got what it takes or b) anybody out of contract that we still want to sign up? Reilly, presumably? It's utterly refreshing. It's fair on the players, too - they know where they stand and can set about lining something else up. Of the OOC first team guys, you can imagine Stelios, Sutton, Irvine and Todd getting a gig in the Championship. The rest might have to drop to league 1, aside from Donati who I assume was just a back up in case the absolute worst happened and our captain got injured. (PS did I see on Twitter that Scott Walker was back at the club in a first team coaching capacity? I can't find it now and am worried I might have dreamed it.)

Hello gents. Thought it'd be a good time for a quick 'mind the gap' update now the numbers are all settled. I have to be honest, I had no idea The Gap was such a big deal until our Greenock friends started banging on about it in the 2015-16 season. If we'd known it was so important to you guys, we'd have kept you updated for the many seasons prior to that one. Not to worry, I'm sure we can make up for lost time next season and beyond. Anyway, on with the stats. Head to head: Over three seasons, 12 games, Saints won four, Morton won two, and there were six draws. Saints scored 18, Morton scored 16. Pretty fucking close, in fairness. Jim Duffy makes you hard to beat: I reckon you should hang on to him. The biggest wins both came at Cappielow: 1-4, 11/04, and 4-1 12/08. Now for the important stuff. 2015-16 saw Morton secure a 'glorious' single-point margin over St Mirren. +1 Morton In 2016-17 Morton reached their peak as a football club in securing a playoff place, and finished an impressive 13 points ahead of St Mirren. +13 Morton, +14 in total. In 2017-18, St Mirren sauntered to a fairly casual league victory, and a 24 point gap. +24 St Mirren, +10 St Mirren in total. Mind the Gap, and thanks for playing, Champs. (Rules for next season: I think the fairest way to calculate The Gap would be to take the gap from Morton to the leaders of the Championship, and add it to however many points we have in the top flight. I know you'll be keen on hearing updates, 2015-16 style, so we'll be sure to pop in from time to time. If I ever get really bored at work, I might backdate the calculations for a more comprehensive historical picture. Because I know how important it is to you all.)

Yeah, I've seen that mentioned a couple of times. He never played a game for us! While we'd love to keep Liam Smith, it looks like we'd spend most of the summer waiting to hear if Hearts are keeping him or not. Plus, either way, he's under contract there. Can't see them letting someone so promising going for nothing. Jack likes to get business done quickly, so the family connections make McGinn seem like a no-brainer, TBH.

Well, of course. Winning the Championship isn't as glorious as getting promoted by default, or going into administration. We can only aspire to be as great a club as Dundee.
