  1. I live two minutes from the Sunderland training ground. Believe me, that description doesn't narrow it down.
  2. We've tended to go for lower league, lower profile guys, or promoted from within. Really not sure anyone fits the profile or leaps out at me from the Champ/seaside leagues. Has anyone who pays more attention got any suggestions?
  3. Probably best to just keep this thread running, I reckon.
  4. He's posting that story about us being in for a loan for Lewis Morgan in 3...2...
  5. Who were the assistants under Tommy Craig? Was it Thommo, Teale AND Goodwin, or was Teale only promoted when Goodwin was demoted back to the squad for getting sent off all the time? My memory is hazy. Either way, my point is Goodwin has first-hand experience of the disruptive impact that overly powerful player/assistants can have. Because he was one. Will be interesting to see how he handles that if he goes.
  6. Trying not to think about it, tbh. Might go back to the Basher one I had. At least he can't break my heart.
  7. My point is that any incoming manager is going to have to bear the frustrations of a fanbase that wants to win a cup every 5/6 years yet which has actually just won two in 30. For whatever reason - geography, league profile, deep-seated issues at your club, no toasters in the dressing room, whatever it is - that relatively large playing budget seems to count for f**k all when it comes to actually winning trophies. You've said the new manager needs to at least finish fourth, yet you sacked yer man while you're sitting a few points off fourth place. You've said new manager needs to win occasional trophies, but also said that if Goodwin's out both cups next season then you'll be calling for his head - which doesn't cover the 'occasional' timeframe. It's no wonder managers of the profile that most your fans seem to want to attract won't touch the job with a bargepole. Edit to add: you are, of course, entitled to your expectations, but the only reason I've engaged with you here is because you called us deluded and I'm not sure we're the only ones.
  8. So why haven't you given Glass time to see if he can win a cup in the timeframe you've specified? Will Goodwin get 5/6 seasons, or is the clock still running? You already haven't won a cup since 2014, so every 5/6 seasons is already patently unrealistic. Anyway, yeah, we're the deluded ones.
  9. Four years to the day (thanks, Facebook) since I schlepped up on the train to see a buoyant, promotion-bound Saints side get pumped 4-1 at the Macaroni, against the backdrop of our manager clearly being unsettled by the possibility of taking a job elsewhere. Fuxake.
  10. Fucking hell I mean, there's guys saying Goodwin would be off to bad start because of his Celtic links, but at least he's not also a fascist.
  11. The commitment to this 'thank you' shite even through floods of tears is, frankly, admirable.
  12. Thread's full of lazy assumptions but this one is right up there. Langfield would, in some ways, be a bigger loss than Goodwin.
  13. Happy to admit I'll be gutted if he goes. Also happy to acknowledge that I was absolutely infuriated with the way he set the team out for basically all of 2021, Parkhead aside. The fact is, Goodwin is flawed as a manager, as he was as a player, but I fucking love him, he absolutely gets St Mirren, and on balance he's doing a good job. I just really hoped he'd at least see this season out. I think the squad we have could get fourth place in this season's very mediocre league, and what an achievement that would be.
  14. St Johnstone fans so desperate for positive news that they're gloating about stuff that hasn't actually happened.
  15. What is a footnote, if not the provision of further information that is not apparent in the current context. Another example would be 'Aberdeen are a big, successful club.'
  16. Saw they conceded a penalty and immediately hoped it was as dodgy as possible.
  17. Just can't see Ross coming to us, or him being welcome if he did. He couldn't get outta there fast enough when his stock was high in 2018. I don't specifically blame him for that - if teams like Sunderland are offering you mad money, then fucking take it. But he has been one a one-man trolling mission ever since and it hasn't gone down well.
  18. Gogic would be an upgrade on what I've seen from your midfield this season.
